cfw can't load from memory card

hello forum, my slim psp (daxter) has stopped loading anything. i had a cfw on it at the time but had never really used it. my son dropped it and it stopped reading disc, just made a clicking sound for about a minute. so i decided to put files on the memory card and play my games from them, since the warrenty was up. but when i load a file it gets to the sony psp bios (screen with psp and playstation portable) screen and just freezes there. it reads the files on the memory card just fine. it only freezes after i try to load them. it won't load any files from the memory card including firmware updates. i know the cfw works because my son did play a game from his friends memory card before. any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. thanks
