I had endless problems for a while burning DVDs - the problem turned out to be a defective power supply. They're not expensive, so before chucking large amounts of wedge at the problem try that.
I burn DVD+Rs with the code CMC MAG-M01-00 all the time, never have any problems. Have you tried burning at 4x? If not, give it a whirl.
The other thing that stands out is that you need more RAM. It comes free with packets of Corn Flakes these days, so up yours (no offence) to at least 1GB and preferably 2GB.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help.
By defective power supply do you mean the main power block of the computer or the wires going into the burner? Sorry I'm only know enough to be dangerous. It's an pent 4 1.3 mhz with 512mb of that crappy expensive RAM like 800mhz or something. For the cost of 2 gig of ram i could by a new computer which i would like to avoid. Any other suggections you have would be most helpful. I can still use the internet so I'd like to limp this computer along a little longer.
thanks again

Power supply = PSU. I don't know where you are, but internet suppliers of PC components will sell you a 300W PSU for about £6, or you can get one cheaply from eBay or from a computer fair.
If it is the PSU you will usually get errors and fails when DVDShrink has finished encoding and before it starts writing, or even when it has finished writing but hasn't burned the lead-out. Yours seems to happen when it starts writing, so it certainly could be power claibration or the PSU.
But I have to say that your best bet will be to get a new or reconditioned PC. I've seen them here - without a monitor, keyboard and mouse - for as little as £125.

Before you go out and Buy a power supply that you don't need, TRY changing your Mefia. The disks that you are using are CRAP (CMG Mags). I suggest you Use Verbatums. Also burn at a slower speed If you are Going to keep using Those Memorex Disks. (4X) and Change your Target area To 4300mbs. DO Not Multi-Task Wile Burnig or Ripping A Movie. More Memory would help and keep the computer around Longer. You Might look into a firmware update for your Burner.

Does 'Senior Member' mean that you can be rude and dismissive of whomever you choose? I wish I had a penny for every time I've read people say so emphatically that CMC Magnetics discs are CRAP. In the meantime I've burned a couple of thousand of them with absolutely no problems.
Please do not present a subjective viewpoint as fact. They may not work for you - they may not work for the OP, but they work for other people. I would certainly agree with the rest of your advice, given that the OP has such limited resources.
Allow me to give you some advice: you don't know the lot, so don't pretend that you do.

I don't see where anyone "dismissed" your advice. Don't be so quick to take offense, as most are here trying to help. More opinions usually means a higher chance of success. Plus that is all they are, "opinions", what you stated is no more fact than anyone else. As for the CMC MAG debate, yes some people do have good luck with them, but like you said there is an abundance of those that do not. A word of warning though and you may already be aware of this so bare with me, it is not always the burn on them that is the issue, but the longevity is sometimes where the problem lies.

Out of the hundreds of CMC's i've successfully burned (not all of them made it mind you) Some of them will no longer play after a couple of short years. Some of the ones that do still play have some slight issues with pixelation and skipping.
Also, i read Berryone's post and did not find it rude or dismissive. What was stated was based on best practical results and is in line with the typical replies from many of the regulars here.
The last line of your post stating that Berryone does not know a lot is just plain rude. No one (including Berryone) has attempted to make mockery of you or your intellect. Not to mention there are plenty of people who've posted on here that have received more than adequate help from Berryone.
As many write errors that showed up along with the power calibration error, personally methinks the burner is giving up the ghost.

When I had a similar problem to the OP I asked for help here; not much was forthcoming, and most of the advice followed the usual patterns as outlined.
After a lot of trial and error I found the answer myself, which was the PSU. As nobody here had offered this as a possibility, and bearing in mind the very low cost of a replacement, I suggested this to the OP. The comment was supposed to supplement any subsequent advice he received here, not to supplant it.
I have been a member of AfterDawn for a long time, under this and a previous name, but I tend not to use the forums, mainly because of a lack of time. There's also the fact that some people here seem almost wilfully to deny anything that doesn't fit their agenda.
For instance, 7thsinger says "The last line of your post stating that Berryone does not know a lot is just plain rude." Well yes, that would be rude. But it's not what I wrote. I wrote "you don't know the lot...". In other words, the not a. There is a world of difference there. And I never said that he was trying to make a mockery of me.
It's one thing to disagree; it's another thing altogether to put your words in my mouth and then disagree with them.

And exactly what agenda would that be? To be here on one's own time, doing their best to help out others as well as furthering their own knowledge at the same time. I don't see an agenda there. Members such as Berryone and 7thsinger have helped untold numbers of posters to solve their problems. People such as myself who are just getting started and would be lost without the valuable advice that many freely offer up at this site. Not all of us have the experience of burning a couple thousand disks, and gladly accept the help of others without feeling that we have had our toes stepped on. I for one would much rather experiment with higher quality disks or spend 25.00 on a new burner, before going out and spending $50.00 minimum on a new PSU.

I give up. I don't have the time to sit here and argue about trivia with people who believe their toes have been stepped on; all I tried to do was, like the rest of you claim, to offer some advice from my own experience. If I want an argument I'll find something worthwhile to argue about.
One reason I offered up the possibility of a new PSU is because they are cheap; for the set-up the OP has there is no need to spend anything remotely approaching $50. http://snipurl.com/psu300
Have a nice life.

bogwart16 - i have burnt at least a thousand CMC Mag M01 by now, i personally find them to be absolutely fine. Now a PSU may well solve the OP's problem, however i wouldn't personally recommend anyone by the cheapest PSU they come across but would get the cheapest reputable one they can. As to your comments about anyone being rude, i'm afraid all i see is a comment about CMC being crap, CMC being 'crap' is a generalisation made around here, a good or bad one depending on different peoples' points of view. I myself can recommend the M01's from my own experiences with them, but i won't necessarily recommend other CMC's until such time as i have used a similar amount as i have the M01's.
The only other thing i see here is that you feel offended as someone had an opinion different to yours, i don't however see that as rude.

creaky, we've spoken before - in fact you were one of the few people who tried to help me last year when I had a similar problem. Given that, I will respond, which I was not planning to do.
I have no objection whatsoever to people having a different opinion to myself. I am a member of several forums, mostly political, and having a thin skin doesn't work.
I'll quote you two examples of why I was less than happy, and then let's put this thing to bed. The first was, as I've already explained, when I suggested the PSU idea to the OP, only to be followed by Berryone with "Before you go out and Buy a power supply that you don't need". How does he know that the OP doesn't need it? He would, presumably, have said the same thing to me last year, and he would have been categorically wrong. I wasn't saying that this was the cause of the problem, I was suggesting it as a possibility.
There are more diplomatic ways of contradicting someone than that.
And the second was my reply to 7thsinger, where he first put words in my mouth and then ignored my protest.
These are not major slights, and I ascribe them to an inability to communicate effectively. It's all too easy with emails and forum postings to be ambiguous, which makes it even more important to be clear and to read messages thoroughly.
I don't pretend to know that much about the technical aspects of DVD burning. But I have been doing this for several years now, and have gone through several thousand DVDs of assorted flavours. And, like anyone else in that position, I've had my share of problems and annoyances, most of which I've sorted out for myself. In sharing a small part of my experience with splatle I was merely trying to help him; I fully expected more people to offer advice but I wasn't expecting the reception I got.

At the end of the day forums are full of opinions, i personally wouldn't take any of the above comments to heart.
As to the original power calibration error, i have been lucky enough to not have experienced that myself so can only go from what i read up on the net. If it were me i'd try a completely different set of disks, the money's not wasted as they'll get used soon enough. Maybe a rewritable disc too (but only if i had some already, just in case they're never used again); then i would personally try a different burner, a cheap PSU wouldn't hurt i guess, it could indeed be cheaper than buying a new burner.
In my own burning setup I do things a little differently from some. I have 5 dvd burners in regular use plus a few more as spares. I do stick to the same discs for years on end (plus i only buy in bulk, in fact a good proportion of my best discs are still unopened and have been stored that way for almost 4 years now!). Once in a blue moon i try different discs but i get very set in ways as i've been 'burnt' very badly by crap disks in the past :)

I am most certainly not ignoring your protest. I had some other things to tend to last night.
I was not trying to put words in your mouth. I do most humbly apologize for misreading your use of indefinite articles. I'm not sure what "the lot" is supposed to mean, but i suppose at this point, it may has lost its relevance to the discussion at hand.
I know you did not use the word mockery, however you did use the words; Rude, Dismissive, and You don't know the lot. It seemed as though you may have been hinting towards near mockery. Again, my apologies as i misunderstood you. But as you stated,
Quote: It's all too easy with emails and forum postings to be ambiguous
To continue:
Quote: In sharing a small part of my experience with splatle I was merely trying to help him; I fully expected more people to offer advice but I wasn't expecting the reception I got.
I think it was understood across the board that you were trying to help Splatle. I also thought it understood that Berryone was not being rude or dismissive.
'tis a shame you didn't get the reception you were expecting.
If there's any further banter you'd have with me, i'd invite it be done via PM.
Good day.
