I have been burning DVD's with no issue for a while.
Recently with no changes to the system I started receiving below errors. Only change I ran out of old DVD's started new SONY dvd pack.
I used -R, picked up a new 50 pack from memorex same issue.
Tried re-installing nero. I use dvdfab for decoding and shrink to burn.

You need to update your firmware on this old burner and burn faster than 2.4x. You also need better media.
The best thing you can do is replace the drive.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Hey.. updated drivers tried sone media and now memorex.
I don't think the answer is to get a new burner when this one worked fine up to now. Tried burning at max, thought lower burn may help.
Wierd thing is it worked on +R????? Burn process did start after upgrading firmware. Keeping fingers crossed it completes.
Had a bugger locating firmware. Just an FYI waiting for blue ray burners to come down in price a bit, thats the route I am looking to go,. Anyhow thanks for the help.....

Try different media. Try to locate some 8x media. This burner is 4 years old and for 25 bucks you could have a new one.

Hey all, everything is working again... I tried upgrading firmware from NEC, but it would update thought I had current.
Turned out I had such old firmware that's why it would not upgrade.
Found great sie from this forum, this guy had his own flash utility and some of the NEC firmware. So one I got something newer, I was then able to upgrade from NEC. This file was downloaded from http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com

Well that's great news. Good to hear you're burning again.
