i just bought a modded wii recently, i dont know what modchip it has, but . My wii can play SSBB and its on 3.1u firmware. When i go to any wii channel(wii shop) it saids that i need to have a system update, but i am afraid if i update it, i can no longer play backups. Is there any wii modchop that is unsafe to update system? I cant contact the store that i bought the wii, so i am stuck right now. please help

I know WIIkey can update safely but not sure if other mod chips wont

At this time official firmware updates (as long as they are from the same region and game backups are not trucha signed) will not effect your system.

However the updates will effect homebrew. So if you are plaining on using hombrew applications I suggest you do a little research before updating the Wii.

I suggest you do a little research in the Wii section before going any further. Allot of information is out there (including what you have asked). So use that information to your advantage.
