I purchased Wipeout HD the day it was released, and played it like crazy for 2 weeks online. I had no problems when playing online, until suddenly I have not been able to connect to the server in almost a month. I have tried EVERYTHING, including putting my PS3 on a DMZ, and also purchasing a new router (moved from Linksys to D-link, Linksys has been nothing but trouble). When I try to connect, it gives me: "An error occured while contacting the server. Please try again" and I also get a weird "your account is already logged on" error once in a while.
I am really getting fed up, since other games seem to work fine online.
I am using a DIR-655 in wireless mode with a DMZ set up on my PS3's IP. I can connect to the PS3 store and everything fine, its just this damn game that won't work. Also, my friends in the same city on the same ISP have no problems connecting. Any ideas???
Have you tried going into your routers homepage to make sure everything is sep up ok? I remember following some guides as I was having problems running a media server to my ps3. This involved quite a few things such as setting up a stationary ip address and adding my ps3 to the routers (port forwarding). Might be worth googling "port forwarding ps3" and giving it a shot...Are any other games giving you grief or is it just wipeout?
Thanks for the advice.. So many people have told me not to set up port forwarding on my PS3, but I guess it's something I have not tried so maybe I will try it out as a last resort. I guess it couldn't hurt!
To be honest, I am losing my connection to the PSN on every game I play after about 10 minutes of play.. I always see the "You have been disconnected from the playstation network" message pop up when I am even playing single player games, so this problem might be deeper than I thought.
I will try out port forwarding and post my results after. Thanks again for the advice.
Will keep my fingers crossed for you mate....Just to reassure you I have set up port forwarding and it has not had any adverse effect in any way to my network between my pc, ps3 and psp.
Well, I did a bit of research and Port Forwarding is essentially doing the same thing as my DMZ set-up, except that it only opens specific ports that the PS3 uses, as opposed to my DMZ that opens up ALL ports on my PS3's IP address.. So obviously that is not where the problem is stemming from.
The only other thing I can think of doing is I have a spare Linksys N router that I am going to try to set up with a wireless bridge between my 2 routers, and hard-wire it directly to my PS3 and Computer that I have down in the basement. Unfortunately I am unable to run a network cable from my primary wireless router upstairs down to my PS3/Computer downstairs, which would be the easiest way to solve this problem. Everywhere I read that you should only connect your PS3 via wireless if you have NO other options, since it is spotty at best.. I will attempt to create a hard-wired soluton with this wireless bridge! Wish me luck...
Agreed on the update....hmmm strange . It def is best to hardwire systems if possible but having the wireless link does hae its uses. I use tversity to watch my films that are stored upstairs on my pc from downstairs on my big screen. I really hope you get this sorted mate..its a real pisser when things like this go wrong.
Dammit! Still no luck.. I used my second wireless router as a bridge (wireless N between the two routers) and now my computer and PS3 are connected 'wired', but my PS3 is still giving me problems.. I really can't think of anything else to try, but am ready and willing if anyone has any further suggestions.
