my modded xbox has a 350 gig hard drive, I use DVD2XBOX to backup games.
Problem: Games saved to F: wont show up or run from the dash.
The xbox has a 10 gig drive as well and only games there will run?
Please help I love this thing.

Have a look in your Dash settings, there should be an option to make the F drive visible..

If you use the EvolutionX dashboard there's a setting in the System Management settings page (also accessible via the evox.ini file via ftp). If it's the Avalaunch dash i think there's a similar setting, not sure as the xbox that has Avalaunch on hasn't been hooked up for ages.
edit-Doh!, i hadn't noticed the reference to a second hard drive in the first post, my specs need cleaning.

I have Evox and Avalaunch, checked both those settings again and both have f: enabled.
Could my mod chip be faulty?
THX again

Have you formatted F?.. it won't show unless it has a filesystem.
Once you have it formatted and visible look at the dvd2xbox .ini file and edit the paths for game dump locations accordingly (F:\games)

RTFM.. you have an installer disk. This is old hat.
FYI.. F: is a PARTITION not a drive.. in xbox (rel core linux os terms) terminology the hdd is /dev/hda and the dvd drive is /dev/hdb.. they are addressed as such by the bios.. with dev/hdb being tied in the bios to a udf/iso9660 file system.
C: = /dev/hda1 D:=/dev/hdb E:=/dev/hda2 etc.. so you try cramming anothyer drive in and the OS will assign it to /dev/hdc.. and the kernel has no handler for that.. because it's looking for IDE1 master which in an xbox doesn't exist as there is no controller for it.
You can't use 2 hdd's and a dvd drive at the same time. Only 2 devices are allowed at the same time on an ide cable, and I don't think the standard modded xbox kernel will handle 2 hdd's.. because it expects one to be a dvd drive.. That's why you can't see anything on the other drive. Just use the big drive which will need a full set of applications and dash files just the same as the stock one.
Only an xbox with a cromwell bios (linux boot) will operate with 2 hdd's and no dvd drive.. and those don't play xbox games.

OK that makes sense.
Should I just hook up the large HD to the IDE cable in place of the 10 gig.
Then FTP all the files to it then
By the way thanks for your help, been great. Afterdawn people are superb

Sorry to sound foolish...
I bought the xbox already modded, Im going to open it in a few hrs here.
I suspect Ill have only one hard drive but partitioned as e: and f: maybe c: as well?
Does that make sense.
So I should reformat it (after backing up all the files on c & e:) and partition as e: 10 gig, and f: as the larger but in 128 gig increments ( I read something about 32 bit clusters) g and H as well.
c, e f g h ?

Ok i'm a bit confused here.... so i'm going to guess what's going on. As far as i know you have a 350 gig drive in your xbox and you're having problems. So this could point to data corruption because somebody didn't format the drive correctly.
More than likely you'll have to reformat the drive. It doesn't sound like you're going to be able to do this by yourself, but I will try to help.
OR
If i didn't guess correctly and you actually have a stock 10 gig drive in your xbox.
--------------------------------------------------
Either way click here and follow the instructions.
After you burn the iso to a dvdr throw it in your xbox, and if it doesn't auto boot load avalaunch and you will see a cd up in the right top corner of the screen. Select the cd and the program will load.
It will take about 45 seconds or so for it to load (it's a huge program)
When it loads you will see the very top option "Backup / Restore HDD"
Then down the menu a bit you will see "Backup Eeprom" select that option.
It will copy some files to your xbox and load the eeprom backup program. Just choose a place to backup your eeprom to.
It will automatically load the original auto installer menu.
Here i'll even take a picture for you...

On the right side of the screen you will see
Quote: Xbox Version:
Xbox Video Region:
IP Address:
Subnet:
Gateway:
Then the remaing space of your different partitions.
Write all this information down and let me know what it says, you can even take a picture of it if i can read what it says.
Anyway we want to ftp into the xbox at this point.
Use this tutorial
or you can do what i do, pretty much the same as mik3h
1. go to the start menu and select run
2. type in "explorer"
3. a window will pop up, enter in what mik3h tells you to type in internet explorer.
4. you will see the contents of your hard drive, go to where you backed up your eeprom and drag it to the desktop.
Just to make sure we're on the same page if i were to ftp into my xbox right now i would type "ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.0.2"
You want to copy your C folder over to your computer and your E over to your computer.
Reply back when you have all this done and i'll have another set of instructions for you.

With this approach we can fix multiple problems at once so if we didn't diagnose the problem right it will still fix all the other problems you have.
Just make sure you back up your eeprom, C folder, and E folder and everything will be set.
You're welcome, and don't worry, we'll get this this figured out.

OK found it. Clicked the backup eeprom option. It did some some work.
How do I move the eeprom files to desktop, or should I move it to e as some of the options suggest.
Getting closer and hopefull

Something isn't right, any hard drive over 300 gig's needs a g partition. Did you ever have a g partition? Are you sure it's a 350 gig hdd in there?
The next set of instructions would be to format the F: and maybe G: using the aid disc. But now i'm unsure that you have a 350 in your xbox. The best way to check is to open it up and find the serial and model number off the drive.
If you post the model number we'll be able to figure out if it is infact a 350 gig.
