hai,
i have brought a sony dvd-rw last day.To test the dvd i burn it as a data dvd (700 mb) and erase it compleately using nero 9.no problem at all !.later i convert a movie in avi format in to dvd and burn it (around 2.5 gb)directly using "convertx 2 dvd" s/w in to my
dvd-rw.but from this time onwards my dvd-rw can not detected by my dvd writer(sony).but this dvd easily works in dvd player.so at the end of the day i can not erase my dvd-rw.when i tried to erase my dvd-rw in nero7(not nero 9)it shows a message 'plese insert a disk'.
when i tried to again write in this disk(since only 2.5 gb is written), it shows the same message.what can i do to erase my dvd-rw.
please help any one..........!!

Have you tryed other disc? Have you check your drive to see if its at the lastest firmware?

I always use -rw/+rw I never had a problem with erasing them even when finalized.
Are you saying drive will not reconize disc at all on only when prompted to erase.

fix my brain!!!

You don't need to finalize RW discs and in most cases there is no option to do so.

i have tried other dvds, no problem at all...
but i tried to erase or write again in this dvd-rw it shows the message please insert disk.
so most probably the drive will not recognized the disk at all.
i used iso buster s/w to open this dvd, it shows an empty disk.

Just burn something else on it next time you want to use it.. that will erase then burn.. unless the disk has reached it's hundred or so writes limit. Convertx probably burned it in data-sequential mode and then failed to set the closed tag on the end.... have you tried formatting it instead of erasing it?

If the DVD cannot be seen by the drive, you cannot format it or erase it either.

I think we have a bit of confusion regarding terms. It seems that each recording device uses a different term to describe preparing a disc to be recorded. The device may say "prepare", "initialize", or "format". Each device, or even a program, may go about the process a little differently. Sometimes if you "format" a blank DVD R (dash or plus) on one device, a different device may not recognize the disc even though it's empty (except for the formatting info). It must be then burned on the original formatting device. DVD RW of course can be used again and again, but sometimes the same procedure holds true. From what I've read in the previous posts, my last resort would be as follows: See if it still plays on your standalone player. If it does play, then you know there's still info on the disc. Place the disc in your drive. Try to open it with ConvertXtoDVD. If it opens let ConvertX try to erase it (you should get a message about "disc not empty" or some such thing and ask if you want to erase. If that doesn't happen, take the disc out, throw it away, and go buy a new one. It's not worth any more BS.
