A few weeks ago, I was able to import a AVCHD .mts file into tmpgenc express without a problem. It would use the DirectShow filter. Suddenly, I was getting a blank screen with sound when I was importing .mts files. I used GSpot to see what was being used to open this file type. Turns out, it was using a Pinnacle Codec to open the file. I had recently installed a Pinnacle HDTV stick and the TV software. If I changed to the extension of the file to anything but .mts or .m2ts, the file would open using a AVCHD filter. I then installed CoreAVC and FFDShow. Windows Media Player and TMPGENNC both were still using the DirectShow filter and the Pinnacle filter. I then uninstalled the Pinnacle software and I was successful at opening the .mts file using the CoreAVC filter in TMPGENC and Windows Media Player. But I need the Pinnacle Software for the HDTV stick, so I reinstalled it and I am back to where I started. I have attempted to unregister the Pinnacle filters so it would default to the CoreAVC filter, but I get no video because of the missing Codec. So, I need to used the CoreAVC filters but the Pinnacle Software is forcing me to use their filters in Media Player and TMPGENC. How Can I get an .mts and .m2ts file to use the CoreAVC filter and not the Pinnacle DirectShow filter without uninstalling the Pinnacle Software? I have been working on this for a few days and I am stuck. Please Help Me! Thanks.

Download filmerit and use it to check the dshow filters,
and if necessary set the priorities (filter merit)

davexnet, thanks for the reply. I tried the software, but I am still having the same issue. I have attempted to change the merit with GSpot prior to this as well. The merit for the Pinnacle filter is like never use and the CoreAVC filter is like always use. For some reason the pinnacle filter is tied to the extension .mts and .m2ts. I purposely created a unknown extension .mts2. When I open it with GSpot, it will use the CoreAVC filter. But if i leave it as .mts or .mts2, GSpot will use the Pinnacle filter. The Pinnacle filter just gives me a gray screen with sound. And like I said before, if I uninstall the Pinnacle TVCenter Pro software, .mts and .m2ts get opened with the CoreAVC filter. But I need the Pinnacle TVCenter Pro software for the HDTV usb stick.

get any further with this?
Another method is to code up a simple BAT file to unregister
the filter you don't need it, and a second to register it again ...

Well, there is where I am currently at. My .mts files are being picked up by Media Player which is nice, but they are also still being picked up in TMPGENC with a Direct Show filter. I have to rename the file extensions on the files to .mtsx in order for TMPGENC to use the AVCHD filter, which produces a much nicer picture.
