The pandora's gui you are referring to is only for setting up your memory stick..If you dont have access to a psp already running custom firmware, then you will either need to hard-mod a battery, or buy a premade one..The program doesnt convert the battery.

Once you have a proper pandora setup with the latest updates, it will install the custom firmware directly from whichever firmware you are currently using.

yes, once you have custom firmware installed you can run the network update from the psp menu to install updates as they become available.

The latest version is currently 5.00M33-3

If you were to use an older version of custom firmware, you would run into problems with newer games (ISO or UMD) not working as they would require the firmware update.

You actually run the program on your computer to make the memory stick. You will need to purchase a pandora battery seeing that you don't have a psp that is running custom firmware at the moment.

You will want to use either totalnewbi installer, or the Pandora Deluxe 2.7-Both of these programs are run from your computer, they will set up your memory stick with the latest version of installers (DC7 or 4.01M33)-You can then just use the 'Network Update' (wireless internet connection required) function from your psp's menu to get to 5.00M33-3 after you get your cfw running.
If you are not able to get your psp connected to the internet, then you will have to manually add the custom firmware update to your memory stick-The update just goes in the GAME folder. Go **HERE** for your firmware updates-they are located in the 'downloads' section.
As far as the 1.50kernel add-on, you would just have to add that seperately to your memory stick. It just goes in the GAME5XX folder on your memory stick-and you run it from the game menu on your psp. That can also be found at psp-hacks.com in the downloads section.
