i was on the psn looking for things to download. I can across a downloading the makes your ps3 back wards compatible with ps2 games (it says it cannot be used with the 40gig version). I have a 80 gig version so does that mean if I download this update I can play ps2 games?

Depends which 80GB version you have. The early ones or the 40GB verson which have just had an 80GB hdd stuck in them. the 40 with the 80 wont work with that patch apparently.

Out of interest where abouts in the psn do you find this patch?

i saw it on the add ons section. I have an 80 gig it the box says it is not backwards compatible just curious if the patch will make it or kill my ps3

It was meant for the older 80gb models that have BC in them. The new 80gb are based off the 40gb and the update will do nothing to them as they are not compatible.

Did the older 80GB's have hardware or software PS2 emulation? If its software based wouldn't it be possible to play PS2 games on the later 80GB's if Sony releases a patch in a coming update?
