Sony DVD-R and Plextor 708UF - No Dice?

Just got the Plextor and had some sony DVD-Rs lying around - but the damn thing doesn't even recognize them. Anyone have similar problems?

The burner worked great in the first test burn with the DVD+R disc that came with the drive.

Have the Sony 510 and Plextor 708. Use them interchangably with the media I burn and read. No problems reading or writing the media.

I have the Plextor 708A, and mine can read/burn Sony DVD +/- just fine. You said you have the 708UF, but but the only difference is that the 708UF is external. I checked Plextor's site and Sony R-/+ and RW-/+ is on their 708UF compatiable media list.

So check your firmware. What version do you have? The newest is v1.04. If your firmware is up to date, then the Sony media must be bad.
