Possible Dirty Lense? Not Sure...

I keep getting a dirty disc error about 20 seconds after I reach the main menu of one of my backups. The game boots up fine and tries to play, then the error comes up. Also, I was playing two of my original games tonight and I noticed that they were both lagging. Gears Of War 1 would stop from time to time and it would say loading at the bottom left of the screen. Could my laser be dirty or something? And if so what's the best way to clean it? Thanks in advance for any advice.
