just a simple audio receiver that can dish out 5.1/7.1 surround sound.
doesn't have to be too fancy, as long as it's good quality and fairly loud.
i would guess about 100w or so.
my first idea was to take the 2.1 i have now and reconfigure it so it would have 3 separate channels instead of one but i have no clue where to begin with that.
i know i would need some amps so let's start there.
anyone have an idea of what i need to get?

if you are doing this to save money, I would recommend scratch that idea and buy a cheap unit with DD 5.1 ready to go.

If you are doing this just as a project, to learn from, you will need to get the DD decoder chip to. Not just amps. Building an amp is easy, but getting the sound coming out to sound like HI-FI is not. You would also need some electronics background to design your board and filter system.

I will try to find you a schematic to build a basic amp and post back.

**EDIT**
I found some schematics of tube amplifiers. Which will give you a better and more full sound.

also found this for you. This might be what you are looking for:

it looks a bit complex.
mostly due to the fact i don't have any experience with building boards.

i appreciate you finding that for me though.
it is similar to what i was looking for.

i guess i was just hoping for something a little bit more basic.

and yes, the reason for me wanting to do this was for the budget.
i was hoping not to spend more than $50 or so on the thing.

you might be able to get what you want for around $50 if you look in the "used", and not "new".

Maybe check in your local paper, or ebay. You never know what might turn up. Also, they have a "buy" section here at AD, monitor that, I am sure, if you take your time, you can find something in your budget.
