Hey i want to decode Howls moving castle and Whisper of my heart movies. I tried using dvd shrink, but it brings up an error message that says "data Error(cylic Redundancy check" . Then i tried downloading the latest dvd dycrpter and i encoded it that way. It decoded it fine this time around only problem is the file is 7.5 gigs. So i have to be able to shrink it some how in order to burn it on a dvd. But the dvd shrink will not decode it. Is there a way that i could shrink it using dvd decrypter or should i Download another program for this. This has been a continuing problem i have had in the past with encoding movies. Some work and some don't. Is there a way around this, usually what i do is I encode with dvd shrink and burn with decrypter. Also this movie exceeds the maximum side limit so i have to delete a langauge in order for it to fit on the dvd shrink bar. But it still comes up with that error. So any advice on this matter? Thanks!

Rip your movies with DVDFab HD Decrypter.
Then use DVD Shrink.

Ok never mind DVDfab HQ is free. I am using it right now. I am not sure how it really works, i just put the dvd in the drive and pressed start. Is there anything else i need to know. Like to have to set a format for being able to copy it with dvd drycpter. I am not sure really how to use this program fully, so is there any guides on it.

It doesn't format anything. It copies the files to your HDD. Then you can use DVD Shrink.

Do you mean dvd decryper. Shrink does not burn dvd files. But some times if the file is not copied correctly to my pc dvd decrypter will not be able to read it. I just inserted the dvd and pressed start so hopefully it works. Also do you know if this program is able to convert internet files like wmv, ogm, mkv or avi files into such a format that they will read on any standard dvd player. Because i have many files that i downloaded off of the internet that are mkv and ogm and i want to convert them into a format that will real on my dvd player or xbox.

Just passing thru, and noticed the names of a couple of the awesome Studio Ghibli films. All that's needed for these movies is DVD Shrink on it's lonesome, but DVDFab will also rip them.

OK i tried encoding it, but it does not work. It split the files into both Audio TS and Video TS. Dvd dycrpter does not know how to read it so i can't burn it. How do i fix this?

Yeah I am sorry, i am very confused. This program does not seem to be working for me. I know it has to be something i am doing wrong. I should be able to change the type of encoding on the program or something. A guide would be very helpful.

As per dialysis's comments, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and the free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter all rip DVD's to your hard drive.
DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter stopped being updated for newer copy protections long ago whereas DVDFab HD Decrypter is current and is frequently updated. So DVDFab is better equipped for the ripping process, then DVD Shrink can be used (if needed) to Shrink the files output by DVDFab.

DVD Decrypter can be used to burn the ripped movie but only if the movie is in 'ISO' mode ie an ISO file. The replacement for DVD Decrypter is Imgburn (free from www.imgburn.com) - imgburn can burn ISO movie files and can also burn the VIDEO_TS folder which are movie files that have been ripped in FILE mode (as opposed to ISO mode).

Downloaded movie files are something else altogether and to play on a normal DVD player they would need converting to DVD format; there are many free and paid programs that can do that.

As to guides there are a few in the 'stickied' thread up top of this very page - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/675820

OK thanks for that advice, but here comes my question. With dvdfab how do you set the mode for "ISO" mode, because right now i have encoded the same movie like 3 times and its copyed in "file" mode. It only shows a video TS folder and i can not burn it that way. So then that is probably my problem, how do i change the mode so that dvdfab burns it in Iso mode. I checked out a TUT but i really couldn't under stand it, so if you can explain it to me that would be helpful, thanks.

Oh also i want to add i have it selected in dvd9 mode. On the tut i viewed they said dvd9 mode is only for dual layer disks, but i have a single layer 4.7 gig disks. But i have to buy the product in order to use dvd5 mode will the copying process still work on dvd9 mode even though i dont have the acquired disks.

1. Here is where you change it to ISO mode.

2. As creaky stated in his post, if you were to download and use ImgBurn, you would be able to burn your disk from the Video Files as well as ISO image. ImgBurn is an updated burning engine and the choice of most regulars here.

After you have ripped in dvd9 mode then open the files with DvdShrink to compress to dvd5.
