Negative on that man. You CAN play it on standard, though the best quality would probably be through component. (just like the ps2 deeper reds, bluer blues, and whiter whites etc.) However the best quality comes out on a hdtv through component or hdmi. Everything is more "crisp" in a way. Its not really just SONY, the 360 is the same way. If you want to play with anything HD you need the tv man. It does suck and it drains you pockets too T_T. My ps3 spiraled me into getting an hdtv, the official headset, the keyboard, extra controllers, they knew you can't just make do with the basics.

As raj said, you can play on a SD TV but the resolution is lower. Even with a HDTV you'll obivously want a HDMI cable, when I was playing on my HDTV with GTA4 I couldnt see the small text properly when I was using the scart, it was too pixelated. So i bought a HDMI cable and the resoltion was so much better!

So now only do you really want to get a HDTV, but also a v1.3 HDMI cable. :P

this is not a scam ,cause u can buy a philips hdtv or lg etc. so not to their advantage you can buy a cheaper tv than sony bravia .the real rip off is the psn . cause the hustlers, when you buy a game it says "Full Game"******** i just got riped of my cash whit PAIN .so you pay and than you see you have to pay the other rounds and char. so they must put "not full game only "Menu Of Game" .i got so pissed of, is like you pay a **** every time you push the **** in it ...

What made you think that? If your ps3 is stuck in HD output mode, you can reset the video settings and it should work on your SD TV.

WTF. The PS3 works in the really old TVs too, what makes you think that HD-TV is necessary? Are you sure you connected your PS3 to the TV properly..? The cables that come with the PS3 is all you need to get started, excluding the power cable...

So may things wrong with what you just wrote. If the "full game" was not in fact a "full game" then Sony has or is opening itself up for a lawsuit. Warhawk was a full game but you have the option of expansion packs which is up to you the consumer if you want to buy it or not.
COD4 was a full game then they released a map pack for it for $10. I hear WoW is doing this with the Lich King for $50. The game you bought was in fact a full game with the option to expand. All up to you if you wanted to. I see your not complaining about being able to play online for FREE on PSN.

the point is they sould mention it "is not a full is a part of a full game ,but you have to buy the missions or game menu" and if you payd it to play PAIN you will see is like a DEMO off a twat game i can get alone in the dark demo and still have more game play and for free and a better game think as if .ex is like you buy wow ,an then have to pay to enter battleground or pay so you can learn skills,or pay to use zeppelin travel etc, or pay for every char race you wanna play and that is not fair.**** that is a great ideear i hope to get 1% profit if blizzard really implement that in it :D

Unfortunately I do not agree with you - PAIN is the full game, yes if you want other characters (skins) then you have to pay for them, but you do not need them and it does not hinder your play without them.

Extra content developed later is precisely that, extra content - and a huge amount of games do this and someone needs to pay the developers for it!

And yes - you can play PS3 on SD TV's!

That's what I hate about next gen systems. All of them except for the Wii feel terrible on SDTVs. Eveyrthing is too small and annoying. I hate it how all the games are optimized for HDTVs. My PS3 is is hooked up to a SDTV and that really bothers me, but my 360 is hooked up to my computer monitor and it looks really badass in HD though.

Oy..I tried playing Burnout Paradise on a older SD TV using S-Video. The strain on my eyes was so bad, I kept losing focus and my head started to hurt. There was just too much going on for such a small resolution - the constant movement, the detail, the colors, the text....

But I was able to play the Hot Shots Golf demo :P

I hated playing my PS3 on my SDTV too. My eyes hurt even with cross-color reduction filter on. The text was WAYYY too small and blurry and, yes, Burnout Paradise killed me, especially with the map. Instead of buying a $1200 HDTV, I bought a monitor :)

My PC monitor was getting too small and I sure didn't want my PS3 to go to waste on a below optimal TV, so a monitor was the perfect fit. 22" WS, 5ms and very vibrant. And best of all, everything in 720p with great clarity and sharpness.

I know people will bash me saying 22" is a joke and 720p is crap compared to 1080p... I don't care, for now anyways. It was just above $200 CDN, so I'm considering myself grateful. This monitor is actually bigger than my SDTV!

Ah you stupid fool getting a 720p 22" monitor :P (joke)

Anyways there is no point having 720p on a 22"... i have a 37" 720p and tbh i dont see a difference. I think 1080p is only needed if you have a 42"+ :)

Fat PSP: 3.03 oe-c (will update when i have time :P)

Yeah, which is why I laugh at my friend who run his PS3 at 1080p on his Samsung 22". And I think you meant "no point in having 1080p on a 22"

He says their is no alternative, but doesn't realize half his games revert back to 720p when he enters them!

A Bit true, 1920x1080p is a =Resolution= and it has to do with quality at a certain size, just like megapixels on a camera. 40+ is a good start for full hd, you could go a little lower to 37 though. you notice this if you ever tried to use anything less than 720p on a 40 inch tv. its horrible -_-!
