hi guys,

I'm new here and modding in general, I've been looking into this for awhile and my friend and I are both wanting to buy a solderless chip and we're trying to decide between the two, I've looked through the fourms before posting and found one that was wiikey and d2ckey. But thought I'd re-post it for wiikey2. Both of our chipsets are GC2-D2C. I've been doing other research and I read that d2ckey was compatible with all games while wiikey2 isn't, is that true? I also heard that d2ckey is easier to use because there is no need to download anything but the d2ckey isn't upgradeable and the makers have discontinued it so there is a possibility that an upgrade on wii might make the chip un-usable. I read that wiikey2 was least likely to brick your wii or have the chip die. I'm really nervous about getting this because it is my first time doing something like this and I don't want my system to mess up or I don't want to spend the money getting everything together and then not being able to play games.

I would really appreciated any help you guys could give and which one of these chips you recommended, or if neither of them if there is something else you guys think would be best.

Thanks very much

out of the two, i would recommend the wiikey2, if you want all the specs of it just go to www.wiikey.cn, its one of the latest chips out, not very expensive, and only requires 5 wires to solder to the drive and chip. theres no games as of now it won't play, the original wiikey however had trouble playing certain games(later fixed with an update), and some different region games, also the wiikey 2 is updatable by dvd. so id go with that. if you don't feel comfortable soldering, your best bet would be to go with a presoldered wii-clip or just have a professional install it,a lot of people have problems with wii-clips not working and things like that, so if you want to be sure just have a professional install it.(if you can't find someone, ask around on this site, theres plenty of people that will do it.) Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for this, a few other people I have talked to have also suggested the wiikey. I thought at first there was some complicated way to update they key but now I see that it is just used with the DVD. I've decided to go with the clip, only because I feel more comfortable and because if something weird happens it won't void my warranty through Nintendo or k-mart. I have a site for the solderless chip/clip that i'm going to buy. It's a pretty good price i guess.. only 60 dollars after shipping. Is that a good deal? It's the cheapest I could find with everything pre-soldered.

The Wii will lose its warrenty as soon as you upon it up, won't it ? Doesn't matter if you use a solder-free chip or not...

nope theres no warranty seal on the wii. the only things there are is those little stickers over some of the screws, and if your careful when removing them you can put them back on when your done,if you already opened your wii which im assuming you have since you know what chipset you have, and didn't save the little stickers, your pretty much out of luck, although you could probably buy sticker paper or just plain white stickers and cut them out to the same size and put them on.
