I am trying to conduct the "PS3 fan test" in order to trouble shoot the problem I am having. I have followed the instructions on how to initiate the test however I can't seem to get it to work. Holding the eject button and powering up the console from the switch in the back results in 3 beeps, and nothing else. While the PS3 is in operation I feel air exiting the system but I suspect it may not be working to spec and the system overheating. Anyone else having difficulty performing a "fan test"?

When I did this all the ps3 did was make a large fan noise taking dust out of the ps3 which this is the purpose. You held the power and eject at the sametime while turning the main power on and you should get this.

I was under the impression that I had to only hold the eject button. I did try it the way you described but it still didn't perform the test. I am beginning to wonder if my fan is not working properly leading to overheating. Any other suggestions on how to test the fan?

The "real" fan test is only possible on the 40gb model.

That would explain why my 80gb is not able to perform such a test....oh well back to searching the forums to fix my problem....thanks
