Hello,
I love this game, and this art.
I'm trying to extract sprites and images from this game. I think that in other games, extracting images are not very difficult, but I have a lot of problems with Odin Sphere.
This game have a lot of CVM and IRX files. I think CVM files are compressed files, like iso, and in some cases it can be open with UltraISO or MagicISO. But in this case is not possible.
Anyone knows how extract the sprites from this game? Or, at least, how extract CVM files?
Thank you.

(Edit: Maybe this topic should be moved to PS2 - Games)
Forget the IRX files, they likely contain executable code to run the game.
Before I forget, what other files are on the disk? Or is that pretty much it?

Try:
Isobuster
Ignore the "Buy" link and download the (nice!) free version. It's an ISO viewer/extractor, so it might not work if you couldn't get Ultra/MagicISO to work. But still...
Apache3
Opens CVM and some other file image formats
Virtua Figher 4 Evolution CVM Tool
This is just for a specific file from the game Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.
Tales of the Abyss CVM Tool
This is just for a specific file from the game Tales of the Abyss.
(A very complicated technical document)
(It's about the CVM format. I included it for... uh, no reason? Maybe for future reference)
As you see, there are a couple programs that work specifically with one game. So this could be the case with this game, as well. Tell me if any of these work. My friend has a copy of Odin Sphere, so I might borrow it and try this out sometime.

Hi,
First of all, thank you for your help.
I tried Isobuster and Apache3, and doesn't run for this game. It allways says that this is an invalid image.
This game has a folder called "MODULES" with 10 IRX and 1 IMG, and in main folder has 5 CVM (I think that one is the main, and others is for diferent languages), 1 CNF and one file called SLES_551.10
So, I think that the important question is the file called DISC.CVM (3,05GB).
Another useful help? No one has tried to extract images from this game before?

Don't expect me to reply for a while... I haven't been able to contact my friend yet, and there's not much for me to say until I get to see the CVM files with my own eyes.
Also be aware that I'm no expert at this, I'm just doing this because I don't mind staring at random sh_ in hex editors for hours at a time. Whether I succeed or not depends on whether the game makers are evil or not >:D

[Sorry for the double post... but then again, it's been 4 days.]
So, I'm back, and after looking through the humongous DISC.CVM file...
Well, the header says that it is ROFS version 1.52, which is a bit later than the version 1.23 that is used with Virtua Fighter and other games.
Anyway, for the first 0x97FF bytes DISC.CVM looks okay, but then as soon as it hits byte 0x9800 it turns into garbage. By comparison, Virtua Fighter 4 at this point has publisher name, some other stuff, then some lists of folders. So no one ever had a snowball's chance in hell of opening this in MagicISO or whatever.
So is all hope lost? Not quite. By chance I happened upon some plain text near the end of the file, and again in another place. The text plainly referred to other files. It may very well be that while the file and folder names are encrypted or compressed or whatever, the files themselves might be okay. But of course it would be a pain in the butt to extract everything by hand.
So tomorrow I'm going to split the file into chunks and have Jeader Naub do at least an ascii dump. I'll be surprised if I get anything else, but maybe it's worth a shot.

Thanks for your effort.
I was "studying" this CVM with some HexEditor. I didn't know nothing about hex, but I'm learning...
Well, I'll wait for your progress; thank you very much.

Greetings guys,
I registered on this very forum to ask you if you had any chance with your copy of the game ?
I'm currently investigating how to decypher the CVM files, and I'm having a hard time with them, especially with DISC.CVM.
But I discovered plain text on DISC_Pxx.CVM. xx stands for the localized language, on my PAL version, thus I have 4 DISC_Pxx.CVM files of 3 Mb for FRench, DEutsch, ITalian, SPanish and a 3Mb SLES_551.10 filewhich I assume (since I haven't opened it yet) contains the english version.
Maybe we can do something with all these files to extract sprites from DISC.CVM !
