DVD drive capable of ripping?

I've been reading around for quite some time and I'm just confused on whether or not I need to buy a special DVD writer to back up games.

I currently have a TSST corp TS-H55L model dvd burner, do I need to buy a new one? If so which one should I buy?

If not, do i need to do a firmware update since neither xbc or schtrom are enabling me to rip games. Where would I get said upgrade if I need one.

Just want to apologize in advance as I'm sure many of you are tired of hearing stupid questions like this but I cant seem to find the answers, any help is appreciated.

in orded to rip games you need a samsung dvd reader flashed with kreon firmware,the d162c is the one u have, you can find one on ebay for 50 or 60 bucks.
to burn the image file, pretty much any dvd burner will work as long as it will burn dl disk.

ok thanks alot, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you needed a samsung but I just wanted to be sure before I bought something I may or may not have needed. Thanks for clearing that up.
