ok, ive had problems with linksys for as long as i c an remember..(model WRT54GS v7, updated to newest firmware). Heres the problem, i can always connect to the router, but it will fail at DNS (IP address is confirmed) and on my wireless desktop, it also wont get internet, so i no the problem is with the router. Its been reset, tried different security types, i dont know what to do anymore, resetting it doesn't work, anything linksys will tell you to try, ive tried...ive configured both my 360 and pc automatically, nad automatically, i dont what else to add, but i no ive tried more im just blanking, still any suggestions and user experience solutions would be great..
The Linkysys WRT54G models are notorious for problems with Xbox's (And every other damned thing in the world - from personal experience).
I've had that problem several times myself.
My solution was to power cycle everything. (Modem, Router, PC) In that order. There's a small white button on the back of your router, hold it down with a pencil and count to 30 and let go. That resets it to factory settings.
Then powercycle everything once more, and it generally worked for me. I replaced that same router with a NetGear router last week.
that was my plan, i tried cycling it before, it will work for maybe half n hour, then itll stop again, it always does that, but ive been telling myself im gonna go to micro center and get that netgear router on sale for 40 bucks. It seems ppl who have problems with netgear 'love' linksys, but for other like me n u, linksys is absolute hell..thanks for the suggestion, ive never thought to reset and cycle *again*
Linksys has been nothing be a pain since I've used their products. This Netgear has worked since I plugged it in. I wasn't even able to talk to most of my friends on live using the Linksys.
I would STRONGLYrecommend you getting that router while it's on sale, you'll thank yourself later.
