I have a DVDRip divx avi movie split in 2 parts that i am trying to join together to create a DVD-R using VirtualDub. GSpot is giving me the following audio information for each file: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3, 70 kb/s, monophonic VBR, 48000Hz.
VirtualDub is telling the following message when opening each file except for the value which are different:
VirtuaDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 29055ms (9136ms for the second file) of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate:69.4+- 13.4kbps)(bitrate:70.2+- 12.6kbps for the second file).

When trying to append the other AVI file, VirtualDub is giving me the following message:
Cannot append segment"filename.avi": The audio streams have different sampling rates(8771.00000 vs 8670.00000).

What can be done to fix this problem and with what tools? Note: i am a newbie

Go download and install the gknot rippack, that should include nandub which will allow you to work with vbr AVI files. Before i installed it, i tried what you are trying and had the same difficulties you did. The rippack and system pack gives you all the tools you need.

You can still use Virtualdub but you'll have to decompress the audio. Open movie1 and go to the video menu and select "Direct Stream Copy". Then go to the audio menu and select "Full Processing Mode". Finally, go to the file menu and save as avi with a new file name. Repeat with the second file. Note: doing this will create files that are roughly twice as large as the original because you are converting the audio to PCM wav. Once you have the new files created you shouldn't have any trouble joining the clips using "Append To Avi" in Vdub. When saving the joined file you'll have to re-compress the audio to mp3 by selecting "Full Processing Mode" in the audio menu and also selecting "Compression". Set it for equal to bot not greater than the original mp3 bitrate.

You need VDubMod (or NanDub) because Virtual Dub does not like Variable bitrate MP3 audio.
If it complains about the joining, because of differences in audio rate (I know it complains if the video is different) then you must re-do the audio like TeeGee says. I use CDex to make CBR RIFF WAVs with LAME 3.95.1 @ Q=0. These are good (and Virtual Dub likes them). Good luck bro'.
