lite-on with conectivity kit pro v3 and confused

ok i have never soldered anything in my life so i ordered a conectivity kit to avoid it.... sadly i neglacted to read the tutorial on how to do the key reading :(

i have the VIA 6421 card as i have modded 2 samsung drives a benq and a hitachi
i still have the hitachi drive (the xbox it comes from is long dead can i use that to spoof or should i use my recently banned ms28 samsung drive?) (the benq is a mates)
but i have some more questions im hoping an expert can answer;
1) how easy is the soldering (any good tutorials on soldering in general?)
2)the connectivity kit connects to just the power plug on the drive (and the power and usb of the pc) is that right ? i mean how does it communicate with the drive to eject etc
3) any way to avoide soldering would masking tape and a couple of wires do it?

lol... wow... those are some pretty tiny points you'd have to solder... by god ....
only advice i can give is to practice a whole hell of a lot before you attempt that .... maybe get some old piece of junk circuit board outta something and just get real good at it first LOL

1.)Its not easy if your starting out I would recommend the probe they sell for the 360 Xtractor.
2.)I'm not going to go into indepth detail on how it works,because the answer can be easily obtained you just gotta search better.
3.)Look off http://www.maximusgames.net for the Spear(probe)they sell.
4.)No, don't try to solder if you don't know what you are doing.
Alright hopefully what I said will help you out,but next time try to search better.

i have searched alot lol but i was still confused hence the post :)
from what i could see the spear is not for the conectivity kit i brought :( but it certainly seems better then soldering, think i may just of brought the wrong connectivity kit.
i had a look at the Xtractor kit and it seems VERY much like the connectivity kit i have brought (guessing one or the other is a copy of the other?)
looking closely at the videos it seems the spear just plugs into the usb port and provides power to where the board needs it, as i have been typing i keep stoping as i get new ideas and doing another google search etc i cant find anything that suggests i can use the spear with the xecuter connectivity kit v3 pro that i already have but the usb ports look the same and if its just power then the connections should be the same? so do you know if i can use the spear with the connectivity kit i have already ordered?

i just ordered the spear from a uk modding site, worse case scenario i will have to get the xtractor kit too (very expensive here in the uk but if it does the job then well) thats if the spear cant work on the xecutor connectivity kit v3 pro (google is being of very little help)

Well like you said the worse thing that could happen is it doesn't work with the connectivity kit you got.It would solve the soldering issues you have though,which is why I brought it up.Your best bet is to get exactly what you need,because if you try to solder and your not confident you could mess up your system making it useless.If your not confident in yourself when it comes to soldering then don't attempt it.

true. I wouldnt say im not confident soldering...petrified would be more accurate lol. thanx for the advice, im going to order the xtractor come payday, the spear doesnt arrive for 5 to 10 working days (only one reseller in the uk for both it and the xtractor) so i may as well order the xtractor soon as i get the cash, if anyone knows a good site that sells to the uk the xtractor then dont hesitate to post, google just brings up ebay and news articles)

well i got a reply from the owner of the site i brought the spear from (its only compatable with the xtractor) so i ordered one of them to. i did ask if he could do anything to possibly speed up the dispatch time (5 to 10 working days is ridiculusly slow in this day and age(i didnt of course say that lol)) but havent got a reply
but im no longer looking for other sites to buy it from as i have brought it from the only official reseller in the uk lolin total its cost me £14.99 for the spear £34.99 for the xtractor and £30 for the connectivity kit pro v3 an expensive week to be sure

the extractor and spear arrived today (damn slow postage and i had to go get extra cables!) but after a few attempts i got it to read the key
for others if you have trouble
use the connectivity kit v3 tool and dvdkey programme built in then immediatly after use the xtractor tool (this solves the atapi inquiry timeout error(if you dont know what that is you dont need this method lol lucky sods))
i now just need to search how to spoof a drive (when i get the time to)
i think its just a case of make the firmware spoof in the xtractor tool using the inquiry.bin from the liteon dump and using the base hitachi (or benq when i do my mates) ixtreme firmware(hopefully 1.5 will be out when i do it) then following the writting firmware bit off the textbook.pdf sections. but till i research it i have no idea
but the purose of this post is too fold
first a thankyou for alerting me to a solderless solution...Thanx! :)
