I've taken my 360 apart once before (about 6 months ago) to try and flash it but had no success, so put it back together again. It's been working fine since, but just as I was thinking I should have another go at trying to flash it I got RROD, error 0102.

From what I've looked up, it seems pretty likely that this is a problem the x-clamp fix would solve, but my 360 is still under the 3 year RROD warranty. I'm wondering if I should get a new warranty sticker and send it to Microsoft for repair. The only thing is that my DVD drive is really dodgy also. It gets jammed when it's trying to open or close and you have to manually pull or push it.

Would Microsoft fix the dodgy drive aswell as the RROD problem, even though my general 1 year warranty is over? If so, would thay actually fix my Samsung drive or replace it with a different, newer type that might be unflashable?

If you know what you're doing you should do the xclamp fix. It's a good solution to the problems you're having. Also before giving up on the dvd drive try to replace the drive belt. I know you may have easily overlooked this little rubber belt but this thing has been known to cause problems with every dvd drive in history. Even the original xbox dvd drives have this same issue.

Here's a link for a cheap replacement
