I bought a 360 along with 3 of the better games out there, but I don't feel like playing any of them. I have two main complaints: Aiming: impossible. I find myself playing Far Cry on my PC more often than Far Cry 2 on my 360. One game is clearly superior than the other one, but the controls are so difficult to master that I find myself opting for simplicity. Overheating: the whole time I am playing a game on my 360, I'm paranoid that my 360 is going to overheat and die. Ring of death: Everytime I turn on my 360 I pray there won't be a red ring of death. Frankly, I wish that instead of buying a 360 I had invested my money on a PC that can play all the new games.

you're not going to buy the latest souped-up gaming PC for the cost of an XBOX... not even close.

yes aiming is something which does bother me with the XBOX. perhaps you should just try different games. i'm playing GTA 4 right now which is EXCELLENT...

and you can't even get it for PC so clearly xbox is superior. (at the moment LOL)

i'm the opposite *bleep* hate pc controls, way better with the controller. And you need to stop worry about overheating its unlikely. Had two xboxes neither died from rrod(one died from graphic artifacts)

Sorry to tell you but the op's point is valid. You just listed one of the consequences of having a xbox frequently overheat and cook the gpu. This also happens if the ram starts comming off the board from the excessive heat.

Anyway ATVE you shouldn't be too worried, with the new price of the xbox they're easily affordable and carry a warranty. I think microsoft did this to try to stop people from buying second hand consoles. If you can get a brand new one for 200, how is everyone that buys broken consoles and sells them fixed going to make any money?

Microsoft is on their 4th or 5th (matters if you count opus) motherboard design now. They are trying to make the xbox more reliable with every revision.

So right now you need to stop worrying about the console overheating, if you have any experience in modding there are a couple ways to cut the heat down on the 360 without modifying any wires or changing voltages (this voids the warranty). Even laying the console flat will help with the reliability of the console. If i were you i wouldn't worry, microsoft has a whole division setup for warranty work, so if it does happen you'll be sure to get a working console back from them in fairly quick.

About the games...now we're getting rediculous. I've bought both versions of farcry on the original xbox and the controls were pretty easy to get used to. Most of the games are setup so you look with the right stick and move with the left (classic halo). It will take a few minutes to get used to if you're not used to it already, but most games are setup this way. There's also always an option to invert the y axis. I really don't see how it could be difficult controlling your character using the controller.

If you still don't like using the controller you can buy a xcm fps adaptor. This allows you to plug in a keyboard and mouse and use it as a contoller.

Here's just an example http://www.xcm.cc/XFPS__3.0_Sniper_Plus.htm

Let me know if you have any more questions

paynfull - let's keep the foul language off the forums.

I can only comment on Halo 3 on the 360 so far but the wireless controller on the Elite is fine for aiming accurately. Hadn't got around to playing Far Cry games on the old xbox though.

You’ll come to love it mate. When I switched over from PC to 360 I was awful with the controls and because of this I didn’t enjoy playing on it, as you get used to the controls you’ll be fine. I had an issue with the moving/ looking with the left and right stick, after I conquered this all was well. Love my box, though I was quite a keen PC modder, which is another reason why I luv the 360, modding possibilities are endless, I enjoy modding it as much as I do playing the games on it lol

As for overheating, if you got the box recently you should be fine, I mean there is always a chance of the RROD but with the more recent consoles chances are a lot slimmer.

Hope this helps

I am also new to 360, but I am loving it. The graphs can not be compared to the computer's ones, and the games, involve you in an incredible way.

I don't play 1st person shooters (they make me feel sick due to the movements mixed with the camera view), and that's maybe why handling the controls of the 360 are much easier for me.

Regarding the heating, mine has the new Falcon mother board, and still, I have bought a set of extra fan to set it on the outside, and increase the air circulation inside the console.

I would say that "you have the knife and the cheese in your hand" in order to have really good fun, you just need to get used to it.

Well now that i looked into farcry 2 i'm gonna have to go buy it... see what you did ATVE.

http://farcry.us.ubi.com/index.php that video alone made it worth buying.

I used to play the original farcry online through xbc, and my friends and i had some crazy maps to play on. So this looks like a good opportunity to start that again.

I'll let you know if i have any problems with the controls.

*edit bought for $30 on craigslist limited edition*

Learn to adapt!!

My friend about the console overheating, I'm only guessing you bought an older version since this issue has been fixed (for the most part) on the new consoles, also when it come to aiming, I had the same problem when I switched over from Playstation to the 360, but considering that the XBOX control is very similar to the PS I became very good at it, it just takes practice, I am now very good at any FPS game ever since COD4.

So my suggestion is "keep practicing", and by the way welcome to the new way of gaming.

One thing I'm not too keen on with the 360 is the wireless controller. there still seems to be some lag.. plug me in a wired one and all the problems I have vanish.. so there is some lag there.

I'm still waiting for the proper driving/flying simulators we were hoping for.. Too many fps and violence games for my liking... not enough variety to make it something I need to buy yet.
rant 3?.. the camera on Tomb Raider is damn awful.. gives me motion sickness in seconds..

Varnull I don't know what you experienced but it wasn't normal. There is no lag in the xbox 360 controller at all. I have experienced lag once by using a aftermarket video cord.

Maybe if the batteries in the controller were dying it could cause lag. Just believe me there is no lag in the wireless controller... maybe if there was interference where the 360 was located it would probably be a little laggy.

Anyway don't let that influence your buying decision. The 360 is quite a bit of hardware for a unbeatable price.
