I've d/loaded some .avi/XViD files that I'd like to convert to MPEG4 in order to view on my mobile (Nokia N95 8GB). Quick web search didn't help much (I'm no expert and suspicious of adware).

As requirements are specific I don't need an over-bloated app, freeware preferable.

Any recommendations much appreciated.

Thanks.

try the free avidemux, it can convert to several formats including mp4.

Thanks for reply. I've installed Avidemux and been browsing around for instructions (none with app!), certainly looks useful but got couple queries:

Under "Auto" settings iPod is set to mpeg4 - my Nokia N95 8GB supports mp4 with RealPlayer so wonder if compatible.

If not I can use custom settings, but read this in intro guide:

If you want to convert to an another format then choose the video and audio codec under video and audio. Like H264, Xvid, DV, MJPEG, Huffyuv.

I know output is mp4 but not sure what to enter for video and audio settings. Any ideas?

Pardon my ignorance but I'm new to this conversion business.

Found some interesting info regarding video playback in NSeries mobiles here:

http://discussions.nokia.com.au/discussi...scending&page=1

Basically says can install DivX Player/Coreplayer/Smartmovie to mobile, convert files and view. Or to avoid 3rd party apps convert files to MP4 with Superconverter (or Avidemux?) using relevant settings, then should play in mobile's RealPlayer.

Will have a play around and see what results I get.
