Ok I would assume this is a pretty obvious question for some but I've tried searching around and couldn't find the answer so please be gentle lol.

I just recently installed TVersity on my laptop for ps3 sharing, got it working flawlessly with my wireless network and all that jazz, but heres the kicker. I was watching a movie I had on an external HDD last night on my ps3 and "bandwidth monitor" logged about 12gb's worth of outgoing traffic from the laptop during that time (when only TVersity was running, as soon as I paused the movie the traffic stopped on the monitor and it started as soon as play resumed). The movie itself was 800mb's large, and no transcoding was necessary it was just streaming.

My question is this, does that count toward my monthly bandwidth cap? (I live in canada and pay for a 100gb up/down traffic cap per month, at this rate after 8-9 movies watched on the ps3, I'd hit my cap and thats hoping I didn't want to use my connection for anything else for the month). I tried unplugging the internet cable that runs from my modem to my router to see if TVersity still worked just through the wireless router and it didn't so I figured I'd come here and ask if anybody knew.

The bandwidth tversity uses is in the LAN and only really uses the internet for the rare update. You don't have to worry about the bandwidth cap as it dosent apply to your LAN, just the internet.

Ah ok, thanks for the swift response :). Can I ask why it didn't work when I unplugged my router from the internet though? Do routers not set up local networks unless they are connected to the internet? (Good to know if so lol, never knew that. Figured the router always had the LAN running as long as it was plugged in)

Not sure, but a router that isnt connected to the phone line should act like a normal switch, so relaly it should have worked.

But no, local network bandwidth isnt counted in your ISP bandwidth cap. What I would be asking is why it showed 12gb rather than 800mb or 1.6gb transfer at that time. Someone else use the net besides you or is that the total you;ve used so far.

thats not the total for the month (i have it set to monitor so I dont exceed my monthly cap), prior to watching the video I was at 12gb's outgoing for the month, and when I was finished it was at 23.5, and I mean as soon as I start any kind of video I see my uploaded amount start going up by mb's very quickly. Nobody else was using the net as everyone was asleep and I'm a night owl and I had nothing else open that used the net. I find it kind of odd it says so much traffic was monitored and that the router didn't keep the connection open even when it wasnt connected to the internet, but meh. I suppose its fine as long as it doesnt count towards my cap.
