i have been using Xilisoft's ultimate DVD ripper, but i no matter what screen format i choose i end up with black bars on the top and bottom. the quality of the rip is great and there are a lot of options. i can choose formats(divx, avi, mpeg, ipod, psp), framerates, quality, etc but i can't seem to get rid of the black bars. the software is great but i am don't want the black bars everytime i rip a DVD.

Could someone recommend a ripper(pref w/lots of similiar options as mentioned above)that doesn't leave black bars?

or is there an easy way to remove the black bars?

use the free fairuse wizard lite, it's the only program I use that can crop the blackbars out of a DVD. And make sure you also check the box that says "use tv display mode".

Just make sure your input video files are in ISO format (fairuse only works on ISO files). You can use the free dvdshrink to convert your video_ts folders to ISO.

to crop the bars out of a divx/xvid you can use avidemux, it will be under filters. When you crop make sure the final number is an "even" number.

When I have use avidemux it has done a good job without losing too much quality.
