i am trying to figure out how to fix my 360 it caught the 3ROD after i opened it and before i was able to mod it. I have seen the towel trick and that dosnt seem good for my xbox and its only short term anyways.
I have found a ebook giving me different methods to fix it but im unsure if it is to PREVENT the rrod of does it fix the problem?

the methods in my ebook are:
o X-Clamp Replacement
o Eraser Fix
o Thermal Compound replacement
o Heatgun Method
o Towel Fix
o 12V Fan Mod
o GPU Reballing

X-Clamp Replacement & Thermal Compound replacement go hand in hand.
Eraser Fix - I use pennies instead.

These can be done as a preventative and a fix.

Also look up the fan shroud mod and look into cutting out the fan grill and the right side with all the tiny holes on the chassis.

Towel fix = bad
12v fan mod = I don't like it myself.
GPU reballing = Average person won't be doing this.
Heatgun = Last thing to try before sending it to someone with a reflow table.

good luck.

Heat cycles + poor quality solder and thermal paste lead to poor/brittle connections.

That's more than likely your problem, just do the xclamp replacement and apply new thermal compound and you should be set.
