about to send my 360 off to be de liteon'd and can have either as a replacement. lots of conflicting views, any advice?

get a benq to replace the lite-on hitachis and sammys are easily detectable.

from where? the only ebay ones i can find are from hong kong and i dont fancy the thought of a dvd drive in the post from there (to the uk)

Benqs drives are going to hard to come by because they were only made for roughly one year, most of them are still in working 360 and they are what most people want for Lite-on spoofing. Even broken ones sell for over $30.

With that said, I have a working one for sale on ebay right now and I'm in the US.

by searching VAD6038 on ebay I have found new benq drives in honkong if i buy one and send it to be put in replacing my liteon will there be any issue in it being a different dvd region or will the firmware install sort that out?

DVD drives aren't tied to regions just like controllers or hard drive aren't tied to regions. It's just the console itself that has a region.

I too seen bhetrick's comment and reviewed the link. The link just says what you said. I am curious if anyone has anything to substantiate the claim. I absolutely respect bhetrick's comments as he seems to be one of the few who respond intelligently. Anyhow if anyone has any data or research with reasons "why" or examples of "confirmed" detections of sammy's or hitachis spoofed as liteons then I would be interested in hearing from them. Thanks.
