Hey all.Im completely new to all this modding stuff.So i softmodded my xbox..And it said it backed up eprom..long story short it didnt..Error 13 so downloaded aid 4.30 and burnt it to a cd-rw put it in and still error 13.Im not even sure if the burn went right or xbox just isnt recognizing the disc.Any help greatly appreciated.

Yeah it cold boots games,and they play fine and save and all that,i even tried the xbox live update on my ncaa ob football and madden..but no luck..Thanks for the reply though.its just really frustrating.i burnt aid and slayer..but its not reading them.im thinking of getting a molex power splitter and trying my pc dvd and seeing if that will work.im at my wits end with this stupid thing.lol

did you try the game that you used to softmod ? you can sometimes use that as a "backdoor" back into your system . as for using the molex splitter im not 100% on that one . if you do try it and it does work plz post that news for us . and just one question from me . what did you use to burn your aid and slayers ? i use nero with no problems . and i also use qwix to make my xbox iso's . hope this helps .

Yeah,i tried my mechassault but to know avail.And as far as my burner goes,i used magiciso to burn with,it did a good job on my xboxhdm.And i will let you know if the splitter works.The only obvious thing is even if it did work the pcs dvd rom will not play any original xbox games.only backups.But thats ok im just using it to hopefully get my xbox to read my slayer..Thanks.

The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you.
(In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.)
So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!!
Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use a 2.6 slayer or something similar
So why are you even concerned with your eeprom at the moment? You should be able to use mech assault to launch the exploit on your xbox. If you don't have the exploit anymore you will have to hotswap it to the box.
With softmods the ability to read burned media is gone when it can't launch the dash. So if you burned a game and are trying to launch that game now, that's why it's not working. Also burn aid to a dvd-r, that's the easiest way around all the incompatability issues the various xbox dvd drives have. Not xbox's can read cd-r, cd-rw discs, it's a major issue.
You should do some serious reading before attempting any of this, it doesn't even sound like you know how the xbox works, or what a softmod does.

As far as the exploit goes i tried that with several games.i think the dash is already updated as it was bought from Gamestop.so i assume..that was done.The mechassult game doesnt even go to xbox live .the madden o6 and 08 did but when i tried with them, all it did was try to reboot to dash..Hung for a sec then just loaded the game.And i did burn the aid to a dvd-r.And it didnt read it at all.I even hooked up a pc dvd drive with a molex power y splitter..Who knows maybe i didnt burn the files right.And yeah im not an expert..But hey im trying.Im still learning more and more and forums like this are a big help.Appreciate all the advice..and even though im 39..Im not full of pride and unwilling to take advice..I try to absorb all this advice from people who know alot more than i do about it..Thanks.

Ok so what we're going to do is restore the ms dash. This way you'll have a working dash and you can resoftmod your xbox. With this hotswap you are going to replace the contents of the entire C folder and also place an exploit into the appropriate folder.
So let's begin
Here's the tutorial for hotswapping. Read through it a couple times to familiarize yourself with the process.

MS DASH
Xplorer360
The only thing to add/change on that tutorial is to unplug the ide from the dvd drive before you start your xbox. If you start your xbox with the dvd ide unplugged then it will result in a error 12 and your xbox's hard drive will remain unlocked.
So use that hotswap tutorial to get xplorer 360 to read your xbox's hard drive. Then simply replace the contents of your C with the "MS Dash" files. You will also want to go to udata and throw your exploits in where they go.
When you're done copying files turn off your computer, and plug the ide cable from the xbox back into your hard drive and turn off the xbox. Plug the dvd ide back in and start the xbox and you should boot the ms dash. Now you can load your exploit and resoftmod the xbox.
If you have any questions just let me know, this process can be a little tricky.

Thanks! I tried using the 360 thing before but i just kept getting the fatx error no drive found.My pc did show my xbox drive but 360 didnt.but im going to try it once more.i might have missed something.i had the xboxhdm burnt to a disc and tried it.but it kept telling me the hard drive was locked!This whole error 13 thing is giving me an ulcer.lol.Thanks again for posting this.

Well im happy to report..after one week of pulling what hair i have left out.I finally fixed my xbox.I tried the xplorer 360 again..and after dickin with it for about 30 minutes it finally found my hard drive..then all i did was just open partion 3 and insert fresh msdash files and rebooted and i got my original dash back and im soo glad..Thanks everybody for your help on this.

Awesome, that's just what i wanted to hear. These methods are tried and true. There are always a few people who argue with you saying it won't work, and that's when i lose my patience.
