hi,
I would like to know if you can rip an episode from a DVD boxset *for Exaple Sopranos*

i know you can re-auther the disc but when the finised iso is done for disc 1 it has all 4 episodes contained within the ISO.

i wouls like to make each SEPERATE episode a single iso.

Example Sopranos Season 1
Ep1 iso
Ep2 iso
Ep3 iso
is there a program that will do this for me?

There are a couple of programs that will do that for you. You will still have to rip the entire DVD before you may make changes to it. The one program that I use is DVD ReMake Pro. It gives you the option to blank or remove different segments of the movie. On top of doing that it gives you the option to change the menu on the DVD.

You will have to practice to know exactly what you are doing, but if you just blank the segments that you do not want then you will be fine.

Personally I do not do this. I own DVDRMP, but I also own DVD-RB. With DVD-RB you will get great quality out of a DVD-9 (original) to a DVD-5. Now if you are using dual layer media then you do not even need DVD-RB, however I'm guessing that you are using DVD-5 media.

I'm not sure if you may use a separate encoder with the free version of DVD-RB, but here is a link to a free HC encoder. Link

I would suggest something like a CCE encoder, but you will have to spend more money that way. Someone else may have another solution to your problem, but at least I gave you a start.

Shrink can do that just fine; and it is free.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Shrink can't make the menu changes. You may re-author with DVD Srhink and remove certain aspects of the film, but when you burn you will not have menu's.

So yes, in a way Shrink can do it.

Is a menu necessary for an hour long episode when your player can fast forward or reverse at 16x or faster? I also use the free Shrink.

No, menu's are not necessary. However, I personally like menu's. In most cases (not all), when you remove the extras, previews, directors comments, FBI, and other warnings from even an episodic disk you will find that it would fit three shows on a DVD-5 without a problem.

When I first started burning backups I only used free programs to do everything. You may still download them and use them. One nice one is VobBlanker. It takes a little practice to get use to, but you will find that you may remove a lot of unwanted material from the disk.

The other thing that you will find is that with a show like the Sopranos, there is not quick action in the shows which will give loss of quality when transcoded. I myself encode movies to ensure no loss of quality, but you have to remember that I have been making backups of movies for years. I have over 3,000 DVD backups in my collection as of right now, and in time you learn the tricks to making a quality backup. In most cases it does require that you spend a little money, but it is worth it in the long run.

A menu for a 1 hr episode does seem like nuisance to me also, kinda like the people at my grocery store asking me if I want a bag for a stupid pack of gum! But, to each their own.
I have always been using DVD Shrink to separate episodes. Since there will be no compression(unless you want to), you will not notice any quality loss.

Your point is taken, but what I was trying to give the user the option of doing is keeping menu's with at least two episodes per disk. If done correctly, then there should be no compression needed for that either, or if so then very little. However, you are correct in the respect that if you only put one episode on each DVD then menu's are not needed.

:), not sure what the OP intends, but for whatever reason, he seems to want individual episodes( maybe to further convert each one into an AVI and such, or for storage and so he can play each episode separately later...
Usually if I want to keep the menus and split a disc I use VobBlanker. It's not perfect(will have some buttons in the menu with no use), but obviously is not an issue for me.

All the posted suggestions are well-taken and valid, however, since the original poster hasn't replied, we really have no idea what the final goal is, do we?

LOL, indeed, maybe it had no purpose, maybe it was just mere curiosity!
