Hi all, I installed the version of Nero that came with my burner when I bought it a couple years ago. Shrink used to be able to have the option to burn with Nero, but now that it's installed again, it doesn't give me that option. Any ideas why? I've been searching for answers on the forums for the last hour and found nothing, so sorry if the answer has already been posted. Thanks!
Nero V 5.5
Shrink V 3.2

Just to make sure...you've opened shrink, then clicked on Edit then selected Preferences and then a box appears. There should be a tab named File I/O. Is there a box that you can tick to enable nero, that's visible?

yes, the box to enable burning with nero is checked. I recently installed DVD Decrypter to see if it was affecting all programs. the option to burn with that as an ISO appears, but still nothing from Nero.

*bump*
i have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling them, but does order matter? also, is there a specific place where Shrink looks for Nero to be? I moved it from my C to D drive, but still under the program files folder. When I reinstalled, I also did Shrink first and then Nero, but wasn't sure if it should be Nero then Shrink. Just didn't want to waste a ton of time I guess.

Order of install? I was told by a techie many many moons ago that there are two programs you should install absolutely last. One was Norton and the other Nero. I thoroughly believe this gem of advise is total rubbish. Shrink opens nero automatically and I believe it will do so irrespective of which is installed first (shrink or nero that is..lol).

C:\ drive is the default install drive, there could be a chance this is causing a problem.
One thing I should've asked before was do you have any other burning software at all? sonic..roxio blah blah.

I didn't have anything except for ImgBurn, but I installed Decrypter after Nero wouldn't show up. Now I do have the option for Decry but still nothing with Nero. But no other burning programs to speak of.

A couple of years ago, nero version 6 should of been out?

Make sure all the apps are installed on the same main/root drive.

Order does matter. If you reinstalled them both (nero and shrink) the first thing to remember/do is always install DVD Decrypter &/or nero FIRST so dvd shrink will see that they are there when it gathers info during its install.
If shrink is still not seeing nero, it could be because nero isn't seeing the burner. I have some guesses as to why....the first would of been that your version of nero is too old to see/recognize the drive, but you state it's the version that came with it...so...maybe it's an OS related issue with the drive:
In Device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, locate your burner and choose uninstall, reboot and allow it to be detected and reinstalled. See if shrink now sees the burner under the nero section.
If it's still a no go, it could be an issue with the drive or you'll need to upgrade nero if that's what you want to use. Imgburn and/or decrypter are good alternatives.

How do I know if it's under Primary IDE, Secondary IDE, or VIA Bus Master IDE? I have a second drive plugged in which I don't use often, not sure if that makes a difference. I also started Nero and tried to select my burn method and all that showed up was Image Recorder, so I'm guessing you're right that the problem is with Nero and the drive or Nero and XP.

You were right, nero for some reason wasn't detecting my drive. I fixed that issue, but now get error messages when I try to burn. that's another issue entirely that I'll post under separate cover if I can't fix. thanks for the help guys. i appreciate it!!
