Hi I just used alcohol to back up my Age of Mythology. I used all of the info that I could to try and copy it. But after I burned the game I put it in to play (with alcohol minimized and ignore media is checked) then the start up screen loads and I click play. But the game just acts like it is going to load but just idles. Then in about a minute or so a screen comes up asking if I want to send and error report to microsoft. Please help. I had the same problem with another game Freelancer which also uses safedisk v2.7. I am not sure how i can write it using my burner. I have a Matshita CD-RW CW-7586. The only way i was able to play it was through the virtual drive feature with Alcohol 120%.
I would love to hear some info regarding this topic. The game also crashes while it lunches just ask you said.
when your done with reading the image of your original cd you will see it in the list of images in the Alcohol window. Right click that image file then click on mount on, select the virtual drive to mount it on and your done. The game will auto start soon. It should work that way.
I am still having problems i don't understand why this burner can't burn this image properly. I keep getting coasters :(. Any help out here would be gladly nice.
Age of Mythology is SD2.8(?) protected so just enable SafeDisc2 emulation and you should be okay. :-)
If you need to burn a SafeDisc2 protected game the major consideration is the drive doing the copy; certain drives have certain characteristics that give them an easier time to perform SafeDisc2 copies than others. Such drives are described as being 2-sheep burners. Drives not quite up to the task (however capable of), are described as 1-sheep burners and heaven forbid, 0-sheep burners. So the first thing you need to do is to find out what make/model your burner is and if it is a 2-sheep burner or not. To determine your make and model of your optical drives; if you happen to have Nero Infotools installed, start it up and under the Drive tab, it will list all the relevant specifications and capabilities of your burner. The actual name of your burner is listed in the drop-down box at the top (those numbers before the name of your burner are important too!). You can get InfoTools from http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_info_tool.cfm Once you have determined tha name of the burner, head on over to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/45121 to see if that burner is listed there or not. If it is listed there, it is a 2-sheep burner; if it is not listed there it is not neccesarily a 2-sheep burner but highly unlikely.
