My 2-disk version I bought just arrived a few hours ago. I just now was able to start on the disks. I have the 2-disk unrated version. Dvdfab has had no problems with this one, and fixvts ran thru it with ease. Finished the process with dvd shrink and imgburn...no problems.
Looks like an easy one.
I also have Space Chimps and Fred Claus, but will no be able to get to them till I get back home from work.
Space Chimps, Fred Claus, and Meet Dave were all easily done. These were just barely larger that a dvd5 disk.
Edit: Added information.

Probably going to nail this one down tonight. Didn't expect anything heavy on it. Will post back later.

The 2-disk was easy. Now, we just have to wait till someone gets the 1-disk version (rated & unrated) and see how those are.
The 2nd disk was just more special features.
Edit: Spelling.

Though I didn't have serious problem backing this title up to a 8.5 DL disc. Hmmmm, can someone tell me why my back disc still has the encryption intact? DVD plays fine...just curious. :)

This one was simple. The following all worked.
1) AnyDVD 6.4.8.5 + DVDShrink 3.2 shows 57.9% compression.
2) AnyDVD 6.4.8.5 + CloneDVD 2.9.2.0 show 55% compression.
3) DVDFab Platinum 5.1.1.0 DVD-9 > DVD Shrink 3.2 shows 57.9% compression.
4) DVDFab Platinum 5.1.1.0 DVD-9 > FixVTS > DVDShrink 3.2 shows 57.9% compression.
5) DVDFab Platinum 5.1.1.0 DVD-5 shows 61% compression
How if you use DVDFab Platinum to compress it shows better compression % then if you use CloneDVD or DVDShrink with any of the other methods even after having used DVDFab Platinum to rip the full disc as DVD-9?

Sorry for the double post. But I saw that for some reason when doing it with DVDPlatinum 5.1.1.0 using the DVD5 settings the output is 4.19GB while the output of the other methods I mentioned are the usual 4.35GB
How come this is happening and it showing that DVDPlatinum 5.1.1.0 with the DVD5 settings is showing a higher compression % then if I use any of the other methods I showed in my previous post.

Go to your settings menu ==> Write ==> and then change your DVD5 size to what you want it to be.

Congrats to all of you experts! After burning a few coasters, I finally got my Hancock - the 1 Hr 36 minute version backed up by ripping with AnyDVD, and Burning with Nero 8 Recode on a Vista platform - The copy is strange - hard to get the right combination on my DVD player to get is going, but after I watched it I brought the menu up and watched the special features and even, for once the coming attractions. I have been at this for over 5 years and this one was, for me, not that easy. Fred Claus was easy but it is tricky.

Piece of cake! Anydvd ripper, dvdshrink, imgburn. Something odd about the bonus disc though. Heres some screen shots. Anydvd states one size where dvd shrink states another. LOL... never mind. just checked it again exploring the folder and discovered digital copy. Dvd shrink doesnt acknowledge those kinda files OF COURSE, lol. Now we'll see how "Dark Knight" goes!
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

I read that people are having trouble with Dark Knight right now. It has some new kinda protection I think. I wish I had a way to get dvd releases in advance like some people.

If none of the above mentioned programs have worked, then you might have the now more commonly seen "bad press", which seems to be the one thing they do to really throw a kink into our ripping programs.
Just take it back to the store, and exchange it. The "bad press" disks play fine, but aren't pressed properly to allow us to rip them.

Where is the hang-up occurring?
Is the disc surface clean and scratch free?

Does anybody else find the "BAD PRESS" idea kinda silly? I mean no offense, but I would think they would cause more grief and negative reactions from such a tactic. I had no problems with hancock. Infact, the only physical "Defect" issue ive had in the last yr was beer for my horses. And I dont think it was intentional. See... the placement of their printjob, label, etc. was way off, causing an obnoxious vibration. I told my drive to go slowly and badda bing, :D LOL, Leatherheads did that in my moms dvd player, however that was due to BAD BAD encryption, and her player didnt like it. It sounded like it was doing Transwarp!
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

Ditto....actually I've never seen a bad press or had one illustrated to me. It's seems to be mainly an undefined overused term. I had some strange trouble with HANCOCK (UNRATED)too. That's the disk that again trnsfrd the encryption? Hey this encryption stuff is tricky. Try RIPIT4ME or DVDFAB (FREEWARE). I believe that's what I used.:0
