What's the difference between the USB's in the Phat and Slim PSP's?

I'm confused as why the Slim PSP can use the USB port as a charger (using CFW), but the Phat one can't?

I mean, they're obviously both the same type of USB..So why's it only work on the slim PSP?

Simply because the PSPs are different. Technically I suppose the USB supplies the same power to both, but only the Slim was designed to send that power into the battery.
