Wii Motherboard crash or brick?

My modded JAP Wii decided the other day that it had enough after 10 months of use. It doesn't seem to bre bricked as no update was preformed and it is not connected to Wii Connect 24.

When the system was turned on the green light came on, the DVD drive made noise, the eject button worked, but the screen remained black. The system would not turn off without holding down the power button. This continued to happen and I even unplugged the Wii for 15 minutes to see if that would help, but no luck.

I have since purchased another Wii (PAL) and swapped the modded drive from the JAP Wii into the PAL Wii.

I am curious though if this has been an issue seen by any others. It seems to be a motherboard failure.

Buy a broken Wii disc drive on ebay or something, put it into your broken Wii, and then send it to Nintendo for repair.

From what I hear, they fix just about anything O.o
