Hi guys, Ive got an optical audio out point on the back of my tv and I am wanting to connect a surround sound system to it. My tv is only nicam. Do I just join them with an optical lead, and will I get full surround or nicam?? Apologies in advance for seeming a bit thick, but this is a new area for me. Thanks

The optical output on a tv is only for Dolby 5.1 from the built-in tuner, when using an antenna hooked up for local channels in HD. It has no other purpose.

If you are using cable or satellite, you'll need to run optical or digital coax from cable/sat box to A/V receiver. Know too that the only channels that broadcast in 5.1 surround are HD channels, some premium movie channels (HBO, Starz, etc.), and some PPV movie channels.
