Hello all, I am trying to convert some .VOB files into a smaller form like Divx and or Xvid. I am using ZC convertor and I cannot get good video. I suspect the orginal file due to lines apearing during the fast action type scenes. I don't know for sure why the lines appear I beleive it is because it is PAL format that has been converted into NTSC format which now gives off the lines during any fast moving scene. Can I fix this or is the video basically trash? TIA for any and all help.
1. use the free dvdshrink to backup the vob's into an ISO.
2. use the free fairuse wizard lite to convert your ISO into an xvid/divx or h264, for the best quality you need to use the h264 codec it provides the best quality at 700mb file. Make sure you use the 2-pass mode (this will provide better video in the fast action scenes).
Fairuse is very slow (amd 3800 single core = 4.0 hours, intel e6300 dual core = 3.0 hours, amd 9750 quad = 1.5 hours) but the quality is tremendous and it keeps the video/audio in sync everytime.
I tried to use some of the other dvd to xvid converters but have not been able to find anything that will replace fairuse in giving me the quality that I demand.
Hello and thank you very much for the input. I got the fairuse program and I am trying it out now. It is going to take a while though lol. On another note, do you think that it is the Pal to NTSC conversion that gives off the lines in the video? The dvd video is watchable but there are lines present during the fast moving scenes. Everything looks like it has different lines going through them. Sort of hard to describe I guess I can say that it is like a delayed scene switch where the past scene still has some frames in the new one and the distortion is in the form of the horizontal lines appearing on the screen. This will help me decide weather or not some of my video files are worth keeping. Thanks for the info and any other help/advice I may get.
If the lines are still present after you convert, you can try the free avidemux. Avidemus is very good at editing avi files.
1. open the video
2. instead of copy choose mp4 asp (xvid)
3. press filters, interlacing and you can try out some of the filters there. You can actually cutout the section where you have the problems and use that area to test the filters, so you can test each filter quickly.
4. This program will save alot quicker than fairuse. On my amd9750 quad, I was able to use the crop filter and reencode a 1.5 hour movie in 25 minutes. The quality loss on the reencode was acceptable to me.
WOW two and half hours on fairuse and it failed due to not being able to transcode the audio. :( Maybe I checked the wrong thing. i will try that program you talked about next jony. Thanks again for the help I will still use fairuse though it seems like a good program.
