Using a Plextor PX tv-402u with a VCR

My 402u works perfectly from a DircTV DVR, TV, etc.
When I tried to hook it up to my LG VCR/DVD Combo. I get sound but no picture.
I have tried Composite
I have tried S-Video
I have tried several sets of cables.
I have tried all the settings in the 402u program like PAL NTSC, etc, but nothing.
Anyone else had troubles with a VCR that solved them?
