How do I hookup my Laptop to my LCD TV?

Hey all... I'm totally a newbie at this... I have a Dell Inspiron 1100, and an RCA 42" LCD TV. I'm looking to connect the two so I can watch movies or whatever through my TV. I purchased an S-Video cable, but nothing seemed to happen. I rebooted and everything. Is there a setting I'm missing on my laptop to make it switch to the TV instead of the laptop monitor? Any guidance would be great... Thanks..

Try the Function Keys... I can't remember which one, but Dells have a hot key on (F3 I think) a function key... start at F2 and just stab 'em all... :-)
Only catch... It's a toggle between the two displays...
You may be able to set up dual view or clone from Desktop Properties...

firs of all excuse me my english is not very good

the way I Do it is go to desktop rigth click property or personalize then dispaly setting there you select Extend The Desktop onto this monitor hope it helps

The F10-11 ect key is diffrent on all laptops by brand usally.. its a picture of a square moniter/computer is the one hes talking about

The extended desktop will work and you just drag it over and the third way to do it is go

Right click Properties - advanced settings then your video card drivers nivida ati or intel

then in there their should be a moniter otion were you can clone the screen so it will show both screens the same image and depending on the computer it would do video on both or just 1 of them and you have to set it as the primary moniter and then the video is through what ever one you set...

if you have vga on your tv it would look clearer then svideo but thats only if your tv has it..
