well it might be the begining of the end for me,
i have tried to download the fimware from Eamos but still the box wont flash >checked the null connections all ok ,even tried red and blue checked com port ok. ?do i need to have the box on or on standby .the mmessage i get is receiver was not detected any ideas please,

That's incorrect. The box needs to be in standby when you connect it to the PC and hit download on the UFL. The UFL will then reset the box, delete all channels and install the firmware.

Then you are indeed, not connected. So you have to consider what the problem is.
Your lead could be incorrect. For the simplest method you need RS232 null modem from the Com 1 serial port on the motherboard to the RS232 serial port of the box. If you are using US then there can be all kinds of problems but you would have to go into device manager and ensure that the USB you are using s set to com 1.
if you use the direct method with the correct lead the connection is instant and the update takes less than 1m.

yes using the correct lead new one from it department at work,
have checked the com ports in properties this device working properly set at com i still the same.

Then I really don't know what to suggest.
Only that if you can find others in the area that are managing to update their boxes that you ask them to do it.
I'd certainly try and get access to another PC and try it on that.
Beyond that I'm unable to advise you further.
