I have looked everywhere, I have a new dvd player that can seem to play any of my burned movies, is there anything I can do to change the iso image so it will play in most standard dvd players?
Thanks, Bobbie

What burner do you have?
What discs do you use?(DVD-R, DVD+R...)
If you use DVD+Rs and booktype them to DVD-Rom, that solves the issue some times.
I would also suggest a tad more explicit title for your thread, before a moderator that didn't have breakfast yet will have ya!

Quote: is there anything I can do to change the iso image so it will play in most standard dvd players?
NOTE: make sure your using high quality media: (1) the famous YUDEN, (2) Verbatim, (3) MAXELL or SONY (get them MIJ if you can find).
No, you can't change anything in/from the ISO image. But you can booktyped DVD+R into DVD-ROM and that is likely to play in all dvd players. DVD-ROM is the most compatible format, all factory DVDs/movies are pressed as DVD-ROM.

What format are the files that are inside the ISO?
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

No, you can't booktype a DVD-R into DVD-ROM, only DVD+R can "booktype" into DVD-ROM. Nero Burning Rom/Express, ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter can booktype DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW into DVD-ROM easily.
<><> ImgBurn <><>
* Start ImgBurn
* click on "Write image file to disc"
* click on "little book" on bottom right
* select your burner
* select "Change For" and media type (DVD+R media)
* under New Setting: click on DVD-ROM and "Change", then OK

As stated, if the iso is the wrong region (NTSC, PAL), it's not going to play in which case the VIDEO_TS will need extracting and reencoding. Will any other DVD play in your player and can you view your burned iso's on your pc?

I was going to close this as 'help' or similar are unacceptable thread titles, but i'm done in tonight so i'll let this one fly, but please use a meaningful thread title for future threads..

What model # of benq?
Make sure you can play those backups on the pc,using the benq drive to do the playing.
They do prefer the plus format, which all 5 of my Q's do!!!They are awesome drives and very hard to destroy.
Booktype the plus format to dvd-rom like cyprusrom posted.
Best way is using Qsuite, but dvd decrpter can also booktype for you. Also ImgBurn, which is nearly identical to dvd decrypter:
1)Open up dvd decryper/to the right of the burn speed, look for the small book icon.
2)Click that book icon and select the Benq tab
3)Change For: Select dvd +r media. Note, you will change it if switching to Dvd+ rw and Dvd +r DL media..
4) Below that,is New setting. Select DVD-rom.
5)Click Change, then ok and you'll see a success popup and you are set.
Only the Plus format can be set to booktype. If you click on the benq tab and it is grayed out, that means you don't have a ligitimate benq, but a rebadge from another manufacturer.Exact model #'s and current firmware version would help.
If this is successful, then ditch the dash format. With booktyped backups from benq drives, good luck on finding any dvd drive that doesn't recognize your backups.

bobbiebit--
You asked if you can change the book type to DVD-ROM for DVD-R. The answers you got were correct--you cannot because you do not need to. The DVD Forum wrote the book! Any player or drive that has a DVD logo on it must conform to the DVD Forum rules, among which are: the player/drive must be able to read DVD-ROM and DVD-R discs.
In the early days of DVD+/-R, some Forum members, notably Panasonic, were unhappy that HP, Philips, and Sony split from the DVD Forum to establish their own DVD+RW format. Those members intentionally set firmware to reject DVD+R/+RW discs. Users got around that nasty trick by developing a trick of their own--falsifying the disc ID to claim the disc was a DVD-ROM, not a recordable format alien to the DVD Forum rules. That trick turned out to be beneficial once DL media were introduced because millions of DVD players had firmware that was not designed to understand both "recordable" and "dual layer" in the same breath. Many of the first DL drive automatically set the book type to DVD-ROM in order to allow the DVD+R DL discs to work in all the older drives.

Must, might, but not always will. I've had(still have it in the basement, retired, can get the right model number if one needs) a Sanyo DVD/VCR combo that would not play any burned DVD-Rs. However, never had a problem playing DVD+Rs booktyped to DVD-ROM. I am sure you are absolutely right about the theory, but it doesn't always translate in practice.

I've had more standalone players that wouldn't play dash format.
Differences in burners can also attribute to the pickiness of stand alone players. When you see a drive that won't play dash backups from any of my benqs, but will play the dash format from a pioneer drive-same media, burn speed, and programs.

When I said "must be able to play DVD-R discs," I meant both recorded discs and players that meet DVD Forum specifications. If a DVD-R does not play in a DVD licensed player, something is out of specification. It is more likely to be that each is at opposite ends of one or more tolerances. It is typically the recorded disc that shows the greatest variability.

bobbiebit: Looking at another thread you started, you are using memorex +r:
Download this free program and slap in those new memorex backups:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_..._identifier.cfm
Open up dvdidentifier, select the drive, click identify.,
It'll tell you if they are DVD+R or Dvd-rom. After clicking identify, click on clipboard and paste it back to us.
2007,I'd recommend the Memorex +16x which were ricos. 2008,not so.
Here's one from my last batch of memosux +16x using dvd identifier, select drive, identify, then click clipboard, and pasted it into this post:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:MBIPG101-R05-001]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD-ROM]
Manufacturer Name : [Moser Baer India Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [MBIPG101]
Media Type ID : [R05]
Product Revision : [001]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You'll see Moser Baer- which isn't your high quality or decent quality, but it is booktyped to dvd-rom.I'm sure picky players will tell a difference even if they are booktyped.
The labels on the spindles used to tell me which manufacturers they were before opening up. Made in India,MBI is what you get. Made in Taiwan, used to be Ricohs. Huge difference between the two. Now,there's probably some different manufacturers of the same Memorex +16x. Best to avoid this brand.
Also make sure your benq can play them on the pc.If your pc plays them, then backups ok,just your stand alone player hates them.
