Ok,

long story short I have a modded 360 with a Benq drive but the system is giving me problems.

I got a new 360 today but found out that it has the new lite-on drive in it that is really difficult to switch with another drive, and can't be flashed at this point.

I have a few questions.

1) Is there a way to find out what drive an xbox 360 has by looking at the box.

Is it listed somewhere?

I don't think so but it never hurts to ask.

2) I was told by several sources that all of the new 60gb xbox's will all have the new lite-on drives in them but the elite system's will have either benq or some other drive.

Can someone confirm this?

Basically I am trying to find a brand new xbox 360 that has a drive in it other than benq and by new I mean manufactured in 2008.

3) Is it possible to find such a system?

Thanks in advance.

1) no .. you'd have to open the box and remove the faceplate to peak at the wires...

2) i've never heard that...

3) for a brand new XBOX ?? as in BRAND NEW from a retail store ?? no...

Ok, huge mistake on the post.

My bad.

I meant is there any way to find a brand new 360 with a drive other than Lite-on.

Benq is ok, in fact I prefer benq.

I have only been finding lite-on though.

Do the elite system's have lite-on or just the regular xbox's for now.

http://360drives.com/list?v_pack=3&v_videomode=ntsc&v_perpage=500

just print that out and take it with you. then compare the lot numbers, manufacturer dates, team name, and you should be able to determine what drive it has in it. if your not from the states, you will need to change your 'region' to match where your from.

of course you have cause they switched over to producing mass amounts of liteon units. microsoft isn't a bunch of fools they know how hard it is for an average person to mod a liteon console.

as for the "drive list" wabashman linked... IMHO this is an out of date methodology. i'm sure months ago it was very useful cause you could find "low" lot numbers which had a decent chance of not being a liteon.

the problem is your local shops are not gonna have these low lot #'s ... and that's why you've been seeing all liteons...

if you go to places like game stop, EB games, or those other small in the mall shops, they usually have the lower lot number consoles.
