I heard many people say that with the new xbox update, they are able to detect the slax 1.4 firmware on 360's. Is this true? If so how can I best prevent myself from being banned (besides not going on live) because i wish to play online with my flashed 360.

you prevent yourself the same way you do on every other update. No new checks were made!
