Hi there guys need some help!
I've got a black eurovox max V that for a while does not power on. After doing much research I discovered that to bring it back to life I can try 'j-tagging it?. I bought a eurovox JTag from tailor made circuits and it arrived today. Although this may sound really stupid I?ve been looking about on the various forums and I seem to understand the process behind performing the actual operation but I?m stuck on how to connect the JTag to my eurovox and my pc! I know you need a parallel port and I do have that on my pc but how do you connect the JTag to the box? Do you need to take the casing of the eurovox? Yes I know I must sound really dumb and I do apologise for my ignorance on this matter but I?m not very technical at all. I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step guide on actually how to CONNECT the JTag and a recap of the process again.
Cheers dudes....and I hope someone can help and save me from insanity! LOL

hi,

I'm a newbie on this as well.. stumbled onto your thread while looking for more information on JTAG. Well I guess you'll need a JTAG Cable to connect a JTAG header to your PC. One end of the cable is a JTAG connector, the other end is eiher a USB or parallel connector. A typical cable costs $20 I think.

Hi Des thanks for your post. I've looked at those threads already but none of them actually tell you how to connect the jtag. Although it may sound realy stupid I want to know where each of the leads from the jtag connect into the box. I did try connecting the jtag and eurovox yesterday but I must have done it incorreclty because when I started up the JKeys application it said that no receiver was detected!

JTAG GUIDE

Build the JTAG as below.

JTAG is in the corner of the PCB and is a 20pin connector (no pins, just pads) layed out in a 2 x 10 array.

Pin1 is the square pin.

Connections are as follows:

PIN9 = TMS
PIN11 = TCK
PIN13 = TDI
PIN15 = TDO
PIN19 = TRST

Ground is all even number pins.

VCC is the end of capacitor C40 nearest the processor.

The box must be powered up to be flashed (don't worry about the lack of display or picture)

Flashing with JKEYS
-------------------

Run JKEYS and Detect. Should come up as:

Device ID: 0x1D405041
Device: STi5518MVB-X

Choose the IRD model as 4900

Flash would be 29LV160
Start : 7FE00000
Bytes 20000

Go into flash programmer.

Erase chip first by clicking on Erase in the top right

Flash chip with a working TSOP image by clicking on the top-right Program button.

Flashing with S*YMax UP (Easier!)
--------------------------------

If you are having problems flashing with JKEYS you can also use S*YUP. This is much easier to use.

Click on 2mb (0x7FE00000)
Click Start
Click Erase
Click Write

Choose your flash image .. sit back and wait

Thanks for that Des. I bought my JTag from tailor made circuts...there are no pins so does that mean I just plug in the 20 pin lead into the availble slot on the eurovox receiver? (if you know what I mean!)Lol

Just out of interest I seem to be in the same boat as you. Did you have to solder anthing to connect the j tagger?

Cheers scouser, I'm relatively new to all this. I've just ordered from the site you recommended. Are they usually quick on delivery. I've only had the box a couple of weeks, but it was 2nd hand and playing up when I got it.

If you are in the UK usually next day if ordered early the previous day or if you are in Ireland two to three days.

Did you try to reflash it first before Jtagging it? Which model is it, it could be a simple capacitor fix.

The caps do not need to look damaged to required them to be changed. It is usually the C14 cap on the PSU for older models that need replacing.

I would do that first before Jtagging, which model do you have? BTW the caps are only a few pence at Maplins. They are a 16V 1000uf electrolytic cap, part No. VH50E.

As I quoted earlier thats what you will need. You will also pick up a cheap iron in there just make sure it has a small tip ;)
