Hey DVD shrink users, like you guys I'm been using shrink for a while, a huge fan even though dvd fab for a lot of you guys is the way to go. I'm a having a really weird problem. I can't get the re authoring tool to work any more. The regular function is fine I can use that no problem. But everytime I try to re author just the movie. It gives me this message saying dvd shrink has encountered an error, and Dr. Watson shows up saying the same thing. The program freezes, and there is nothing I can do except shut is off. I've been to the virus forum thinking it was malware or something nasty. They told me to come here, apperantly shrink is virus proof. I really hope you guys can help me, I don't want nothing besides shrink. I want the re author tool to come back. I hope you guys can work your magic.

Very Respectfully

G

Me too. I've using Shrink for years, but now almost every disc I put cause a Dr Watson error as soon as I hit the re-author button. In my particular case, it started shortly after I re-image the drive. Interestingly it also does it on my laptop as well. I don't think I would have viruses on both machines. Any help greatly appreciated.

This has been happening lately to users that have installed IE8. Have either of you recently done this?

Yes I have. Can I just dump it or is there something else I need to do to get it working? I have IE8 installed on both my desktop and laptop.

Yeah, I have IE8 as well. Now that you mention it. this problem started it at the exact same time. As FGarvin23 said, do I need to do something to IE or am i going to get rid of it completely.

I dumped IE8 and now Shrink is working as ever. Thanks for the assist. Is there some nefarious reason behind this or is just it just a fluke? Thanks again.

There's a certain dll file that Shrink uses and upgrading to IE8 changes that file. This issue will never be corrected so if you want to upgrade your browser you won't be able to use DVD Shrink anymore.

If you're using XP just got into your Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall from there.

If Vista you have to revert from the Updates menu.

You can use this method to uninstall ie 8 make sure you download
ie 7 first from microsoft site.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
Carefully select and then copy the following command:
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied from above
Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

Some time 2 programs that try to make almost the same thing they interfere with each other, 'cos they start shering folders,You need to uninstal the latest-one or do System restore to fix the problem !!!

I FIND SOMETHING NEW:

IE8 and DVD Shrink can work Just Fine together !

SOLUTION:
Uninstalling DVD Shrink a 100%

HOW:
After you Uninstal DVD Shrink, you still have "lefts overs" in the PC from it. They are call it (.pf) or "Prefetch File"; There job is to make a future download back of any program faster and it retain all settings that was set the last time it was use.

One easy way to erase them is by using "Revo Unistaller" and/or "CCleaner" (Register version)on this last one go to: "Windows" > "Advanced" and tick "Old Prefetch Data" before you run it.

So download your EI8 first and then your "fresh" DVD Shrink that will work "OK" the 2 together.

Note: The new version of IE8 as fix this problem already.

I hope this help.
Good Luck !
