How come some older ISO's do not work on newer CFW'S?

I was always afraid to ask this question since i thought that my ISO's were messed up or something but now I'm sure that they are fine.

What happens is that several old games/ISO's don't work on CFW higher than 3.71 M33

I got to a point where i had to have one of my PSP's be running 3.71 or 3.52 to be able to play some of the old games..and the other be running a higher CFW to play newer games..its been a while since i thought about this but about 5 minutes ago i tried playing Dragon ball z Shin Budokai...and it freezes right after i press start in the Main Menu....i don't remember all the games that this happened on...but i'm just wondering if anybody knew why this happens.....thank you in advance =)

also i does not only happen on my psp its happened with several games in my friends psp's as well

Have you tried changing the Driver(In recovery mode?)I would try that.Or if you're on M33,just hit select on XMB.Some games only work on certain drivers,or work better on others.

Thanks for the replies :)

I've tried using M33 Drive, OE isofs Sony Sony S9### and they all make the psp turn off when the game gets to a certain point :(

Are you using .iso, or .cso? Sometimes .cso games don't work on the newer firmware. Using .iso solves the problem.
