hi. i am using an all-in-wonder to capture vhs through the co-ax with premiere 6 on win2k to avi files. i can't record more than about 7 minutes at a time because the file goes over 2 GIGS!

i've tried all of the video compressors in premiere (cinepak, intel, MS mpeg4, MS RLE, etc) and i get the same result. each minute of video is about 280MB. to burn these to DVD would means i'd get less than 20 minutes on each DVD?

i'm doing something horribly wrong.

my band played a 25 minute set at a local club. the resulting videos (i had to do one avi file per song) came out to over 6 gigs!

please help. much thanks!

Hi Sadchild,

I'm having similar problems capturing my old analog tapes to put on the web, (...and I'm definitely a novice!)
I capture 30 sec clips using mjpeg (not no compression) and then convert to Windows Media 9. You can get these codecs free with the Windows Media Encoder,

Most of files are reduced from 50mb to about 4mb, I tried DivX encoders but the resultant files were rather large. It's worth a go!

First thing Don"t Capture in Premier to an AVI format Unless you have a NTFS File System(WinXP,2000,NT) and you Have about 80gb of free space on a Seperate Hard drive...And the Files you have allready Captured would Have to be encoded to Mpeg2 For DVD so you would still be able to get a couple of Hours on each DVD...Try useing the MMC Capture software that Came with your All In Wonder or use a New version that you can Download from the ATI Web Site..Then Capture Directly to Mpeg2 at 720+480 with an Average bitrate of about 6000kbs...The Resulting File would Just have to Be authored to DVD and the File will Be only about 1.3gb...Or you can use the Files you have allready Captured and encode them to Mpeg2 useing the same settings and then you just author the Encoded Files to DVD....If you Need any Specific help then let me Know and I"ll try to help you out....Cheers
