my friend's modchip is fried... need backup loader fast!

ok i'm in a deep shit.
i got my wii modded by a pro modder.. and when i saw him installing it, it didn't look that hard.
so my friend just bought a wii and i said i can install a modchip for him.
however, while i was soldering the chip onto ic legs, i messed up and i thought i cleaned it up.. but when i turned it on, it got fried and the modchip is completely dead.
i told my friend the bad news and he's devastated.
i heard there is a way to run backups without a modchip (obviously i didn't pay any attention to it because my wii has a modchip).
does it run at a full speed like modchip'ed wii?
is there any difference?
can someone give me the step-by-step instruction?
my friend didn't ask me to pay for it or anything but i feel so bad... because he's so sad now and he doesn't have any money to buy another chip.

Do some research by searching the Wii section of this forum. This is asked 2 or 3 times a day. As well there is a few guides in the Ultimate Sticky Thread.
