My father has an old HDTV (prob only 720p, maybe 1080i at the most) and I want to get him an upconverting dvd player. Will the newer ones which upconvert to 1080p also support 720p or 1080i?

Also, how will a dvdrip when it has been upconverted? By dvdrip, I mean your basic 700-900mb avi file.

I helped my brother pick up a upconverter recently. We got the Toshiba XDE, its a pretty good upconverter. Probably one of the best I've seen. Except for Oppo.
